Andrew Johns. Drugs, Oh dear.

living in inner-ish newcastle i "see" andrew johns quite regularly (supermarket, paper shop, beach). he is genuinely a nice guy, who loves his son and who found himself living in a fishbowl at aged 18 - something i would imagine every 18 yr old would have problems with.

after admitting to the drug taking a few weeks back, he appeared very contrite and ashamed, when we saw him trying to get some alone time down at the beach, surfing (with two news helicoptor buzzing overhead trying to get photos of him).

but that cousins guy! total denial, arrogance and not contrite in the slightest. hope he gets the book thrown at him. the first step to rehab is admitting the problem - don't think rehab will help this guy.

Enough already...Why do we persisit to raise footballers, rugby league/union players as 'role models'.

As an AFL follower, I go every week with family/friends, love talking about the game, but these guys are in their mid to late 20's, with limited life experience. Most other people their age have either just come out of some formal education or been working for just a few years. Anyone see the ridiculousness of what we are doing

There are always exceptions to the rule, but why be like the rest of the sheep in society that elevates these guys to a status that is totally inappropriate....

I dont know the whole story but if he doesn't have a drug problem and doesnt do it on a regular basis I dont see the big deal. Just because he is a footy player, woopdedoo.
I know alot of people who do "recreational drugs" on a weekly basis and that includes ecstacy which IMO should not be classed as recreational in the same class as marijuana. These people live otherwise normal lives... its a personal choice. I choose not to try ecstacy as I dont feel the need to. But the majority who do do it, do it carefully and without bothering other people.
You would be surprised who does it.. probably alot of people you know.

Once again, just because he is a footy player woopdedoo.....

I'm sort of feeling a bit sorry for Mr Cousins now. Seems amoungst the other stuff, there was viagra. :)

Not that theres anything wrong with viagra. If ya need it, ya need it. But if I was a fit toned strapping young footy player, I wouldn't want the whole world to know I was on it.

See ya's.

Very sad, one would think someone like this at his age would only need fresh air to be happy, pity the previous girls in his life, now i can understand why they call him minute man......willair...

I'll save my sympathy for the kids of this deluded mother, very well likely reassured into taking ecstasy by various media and peers with a soft and ill informed attitude towards club drug side effects.

As for comments about anyone being careful about illicit club drugs.....absolute adolescent naivety and stupidity. Anyone with such an attitude has no idea how MDMA is synthesized and by whom, what its side effects are, how it is substituted with more easily produced or attained and dangerous combinations of MDA, PMA, ephidrine, and Ketamine.

A young lady, a student at our "top" private school, died a year or so ago after being part of a game where they grab prescription drugs from home and throw them on the table and swallow a cocktail of what is in front of them: I am underwhelmed by the explanation that his drugs were available through pharmacies.

I am equally underwhelmed by the symphathy vote that says it would not be an issue if he were not an elite sportsman. If he couldn't kick a ball he would have had to work in WA's BIG industry (mining) to afford his habit. Would they give him such leeway? Bullsh!t they would. He would be subjected to a hundred times more tests than the average footballer and where the acceptable level of alco is ZERO!

But if you were to suggest that MPs should have an alco test before entering parlament, you would have my support. :D

Don't know whether to laugh or cry over the misinformation in the last two posts..........

Anyhow I'm off to find some statistics on how many people have been knocked over and killed by inebriated cyclists..... so that I can compare that to deaths at raves..........

And for what it's worth mining workplace A&OD policys have generally turned what was recreational drug use into something a lot more serious.

The detection of residual THC has forced those that will, into drugs that have low residual levels.

Don't believe me, just ask at any local hospital up here..........they can't keep up with the number of FIT packs they are asked for....:(

ciao

Nor

(and it appears the W.A. coppers went off half cocked at Mr Cousins. The guys obviously an unremoresful knob, but it now seems he could sue the Weagles for terminating his contract.........)

Just on ecstasy, I saw a report recently that stated that taking just one tablet on one occasion can have lasting effects on the brain up to 7 years later (think I got that right).

Scary stuff.

With all the advertising etc around these days, there is no excuse for anyone not to know the damages that drugs cause, kids (teens) included.

Just thankful that none of my family partake (that I am aware of anyway).

Regards
Marty
