Bathrrom reno on a budget - can I DIY waterproof?

Hi all, 1st timer here. We are currently in the midst of an IP bathroom reno located on the Gold Coast.

To save on costs, we are completing the lions share of the reno ourselves. We have thus far have completed the demolition work ourselves. The layout will stay the same, with updated tiles to floor and walls, including tiled shower. We have a plumber coming in for what repairs etc are needed for plumbing. He has said that we will need to re-waterproof the shower area prior to tiling. He also stated that the waterproofing needs to be completed by an accredited professional to ensure we are covered by insurance. Is this true or is he blowing air up our proverbials? Can waterproofing be done sufficiently DIY? Any feedback/recommendations very welcome.

Cheers

Not sure what insurance he is talking about, if you are getting your work certified you will need the certificate from a waterproofer. Then again its nice when you go to sell to have a certificate from a waterproofer seems to give people confidence that are buying the place.

Of course if you are going to do it yourself I guess you can take plenty of photos and note what waterproofing you used.

Just read up on how to do the waterproofing there are a few things to be aware of.
