Books

What will most of you guys do with your books now that kindles are becoming more popular.

Hi Dan and nan, it'll be a cold day in hell before I read on a Kindle over an actual book. I find trying to read on a screen really difficult and I get headaches after a while, as well. I have a mountain of articles and things I need to read on my computer, but I find it really easy to excuse myself from doing so due to the headache thing.

I don't know - there is something about books. The touch, feel, smell, kids' illustrations ... ability to read in the bath, at the beach, on your side in bed ...

I'm with you. I will be grateful I have a hard copy of The Zombie Survival Handbook when the zompocalypse happens and electricity is a distant memory.

Yes, I'm serious. I don't mess around when it comes to the zombie apocalypse.

the Kindle is different to most screens cause its not backlit, and the writing is like ink, rather than what is on computers/tablets.

I also get a headache from screens, but I actually find the kindle easier on my eyes than a real book.

So, may be worthwhile trying sometime....... just as an experiment! :D

Hi Fabulous,

I also thought the same thing, I work in front of a computer all day everyday and hate reading off it. I was a bit upset when my wife gave me a kindle for xmas thinking I will never use this piece of cra p.

I just finished my first book using the kindle last night, it is different then looking on a computer screen, it needs light unlike a monitor. Actually it is easier to read in bed with a kindle then a book.

+1

I initially thought the kindle might be too slow for me, (reasonably fast reader), but not only is it great to read, (ie lighting/print etc), ease of transportation of a bucket load of books while travelling, but it doesn't slow me down, I've adapted to it well-after some initial reservations.

-User friendly (for me anyway).
-Practical to lug around, just remember to charge now and then.
-Keeps my page I was last up to.
-I got a heap of freebies on it.

Again, just a little sad I cannot access all the books I want, (Australian kindle), don't have the access of the USA one. So I didn't research that too well. Will set up a USA one I think, next trip.

Why a book is better than a kindle:

.A book is better at killing spiders
.You are less likely to find a 20yo envelope or receipt used to bookmark a kindle

PS. Considering I was giving away 100+ books.
It was very surprising how few people responded.

I miss Boarders book shops. I used to spend hours in there. And I guess that is why they went belly up, people like me spend hours in there but didn't spend money.

Online book shops killed the book shop.
(Video killed the radio star)
