Burial Plots

A curiosity question.

Saw a news item the other day about an auction of burial plots at a cemetary. Why would they be doing this?

It was well attended apparently and all lots sold. What types of buyers are these? For personal/family use or is there money to be made in buying up burial plots?

As a side issue, I recently went to my friends mothers funeral. It came to her attention that there was one plot left next to her mother, father and sister so she bought it then and there!

Cheers

I think there probably would be money to be made in cemetaries that are nearly full, or very "prestigious". My parents have owned a plot in a cemetary for over 30 years, but as the time to use it gets closer, they've decided it's not sunny enough, so they want to sell that plot and move up the hill to a plot with a better aspect!! The things you think about when you are 70!!

Penny, that story gave me a smile. More sun indeed. It is kinda sweet to think that they want eternal sunshine.
