also consider how far to actual station, and whether station is major stop. i live close to major station, maybe 100m from the line, but its only 200m from the station itself - thus the speed trains are going when they pass is like 20km/h since they are all stopping, or just starting from a stop. really the only trains i ever hear at the freight trains which dont stop, and then only if im awake (have never woken from the noise)

but, prospective buyers might not know this until they are living in it, so it has the same disadvantages of 'appearing' a bad buy rather than actually being one.

if your more than about 400m from station, then train noise will be higher as the trains are going faster.

i generally wouldnt buy backing onto station unless the price is significantly cheaper that would also allow for minimal CG in future.
