How can we be sure these errors aren't happening in Australia?

Try the "mortgage watchdog", or similar if you are concerned.

I think this is the same product that the reno kings were pushing - I got sucked in and ended up buying it (might have been $99 - "damaged packaging" or something) and even with an offset account, found that ANZ were calculating interest correctly.
