Electricity Disconnection Fee

I am in the process of renovating several properties in NSW. Each time I setup an electricity connection and after 4 weeks once the renovation has finished I incur a $90 disconnection fee.

Anyway around this?

Perhaps it's just the cost of doing business but would love to hear if someone has figured out a better way to manage this cost.

Are you selling them? I've never paid a disconnect fee. Our renos are 5 weeks.

I'm pretty sure the tenant just put it in their name when they moved in.

Depending upon the energy supplier, some disconnect the supply others just put a tag on the meter. If it is the latter, use the power and then at completion get a reading done.

Renting them out afterwards.

So sounds like no need for disconnection fee and just transfer to account to new tenants.

Thanks!

I recently got charged $120!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! was not happy jan,

i thought about keeping it connected, and then getting the tenants name on it
but I thought what would happen if I forgot and they kept on using it, and I only noticed after 6 months,

I guess in hindsight, I could have said to the tenant, you've got 7 days to change the name, if not im disconnecting
