Family Lawyer recommendation - SE Queensland (South Brisbane)

I have a friend that is in urgent need of a good family lawyer. The current lawyer (on the first visit) provided incorrect advice about caveats and was so anxious to get out and start his weekend my friend basically had to beg him to stay and listen and finish out their 30 minute session (apparently he started packing his desk before they were even half way through). I strongly recommended finding a new lawyer...but I have no idea who. I've been helping scour Google but just can't find much in the way of recommendations (I guess it's too dangerous to leave a negative review on a lawyer!). Can anyone recommend a good one?

RPI (Darryl) from the forums would be a good start, if his firm does not do family law then I am sure he can refer your friends matter to another law firm

Well as a family lawyer, I'm not actually convinced the lawyer your friend saw did anything particularly wrong.

Based on what you said, there wasn't any need for a caveat and there really wasn't anything urgent about your friend's matter. The lawyer might have even saved your friend some time/money by cutting the appointment short.

Shrug.

It wasn't about the need for a caveat. It was about giving wrong information about a caveat (saying it's not possible to lodge one until a divorce had been official filed).

I retired from family law years ago (property , PI and deceased estates is my bread and butter nowadays) and I refer my family law work to Bruce Dulley & Associates. I also refer work to Mitchells lawyers at Moorooka. Ring the QLS - although you have to ask if you want a referral to someone other than an accredited specialist.

I generally used to caveat properties not in my client's name to lock down any sale or redraw so as to throttle the other parties access to finances without our input or a Court order. A Hogan order allows you to get an advance on your entitlement to fund your lawyers- or you can go to a litigation lender.
Good Luck in a difficult time.

Thanks Dave

Definitely no family law for me, barge pole etc.

Have had some clients use:

Hi Darryl, my friend has decided to apply a caveat just to be safe, as things are getting pretty crazy. I know family law isn't your specialty but you're good at the property side of things. Is it ok if my friend contacts you for the caveat and another lawyer for the other stuff? I ask this because the other lawyer my friend found won't be available until Wednesday and this needs to be processed Monday. Or is it generally recommended that people use one lawyer to do both?
