Fat Club - lost 100kg's

Ten years ago I lost 100kg's......read on and I'll tell you how but first.....an update:

I currently need to lose the 18 kgs I've gained in the last 2 years (ouch!!)

Any tried or true methods out there to kick this lard? (2 pregnancies didn't help!!)

I just don't understand why my scales aren't dropping :) :/

I mean.......

When my properties were INCREASING in value so was my waist line.....So I figure based on current projections I should be at least 8.2 kg's lighter eh?

What's your tried and true method for losing?

Anyway *how* did I lose 100kg's 10 years ago???

Easy ........I divorced him !!

lol - my wife has breastfed 3 kiddies and has managed to keep her weight to pre-preganacy levels. infact, she's 7kg lighter now than when she fell pregnant with the third.

My wife lost 3kgs while I was in India recently. I'm the cook at home, so without me there knocking up great meals she was eating less.

Food and exercise really isnt the total answer for women - I truly believe there are other factors going on. In the last five years, I have not eaten any differently from the 40 or so years prior, have exercised more because I now have time to do that, but have still gained 5 kilos from my preferred weight. Five kilos is hardly a biggie, but it is inexplicable as to why it happened.

BUT - a week ago I started on the Lemon Detox diet (the real one with Madan Bal syrup)- for the first two days it was very hard going - I had headaches (because of caffeine withdrawal from my 1 cup of coffee a day) but I didnt feel hungry. At the end of the week I modified it slightly as I found I wasnt able to consume an all liquid diet, but when hubby returned from a week overseas trip, he said he could really see the difference. I lost 4 kilos.

The thing about this diet is that it rejigs the way you think of food. I hated salads in the past - now I have a healthy salad at lunch and really enjoy it; plus grilled chicken/fish for dinner and another salad. I have only had one glass of wine for 10 days, that too will help. So I hope to maintain the weight I am.

My son is doing it too - he is an adult, and a big boy and could easily lose 20 kilos. He loves his food, but he has now been on the full liquid diet for 8 days now; he is able to exercise, work, and is very happy!

Lots of people say how this diet is dreadful for your body, but health food stores thoroughly recommend it. And after the first 2 days you feel great!

I ended up around 58kg about 18 months ago and have clawed my way back to 72kg but currently around 70kg, need to put on a bit more muscle.

Same principles apply to gaining and lossing it just the quantity that changes.
5-6 meals per day.
split your calorie intake evenly between them.
each good food (difficult)
work out calorie intake (takes effort)
measure and modify depending on what is happening.
do some physical work, varies depending on what outcome you want.
education, you need to learn how to measure food intake, and results.

really weight isn't the best measure, get a tape measure and wrap it around waist, hips, chest, thigh and arms use that as the measure, look in the mirror and take some pics.

learn what foods you body works best with and how much fat / protien / carbs your body needs.

bit like investing really, you need to learn the basics, impliment a plan and keep tweeking it.

cheers

For me, falling pregnant - within weeks I have lost 5 kgs and grown really big boobies.:D Shame about the puking and feeling sooo bad.

Dawn French (the Vicar of Dibley) when interviewed on Parkinson showed photos of how she looked before her wedding...she had lost many many kilo's of weight after seeing a Harley Street specialist in London.

Said weight loss diet consisted of eating protein (steak) drinking orange juice and having vitamin injections (which may or may not have contained speed). (Ethereal-she also talked with Parkinson about her really big boobies-said women as well as men were fascinated by them-think she said she was a 47J, less when she dieted)

A pure protein diet woudl probably do it. Not sure how good it is for your body though.

Exercise (but i find I have to do heaps of this) such as 3km swims every second day, running, cycling...very hard for me to lose a lot of weight.

There's also a diet most hospitals put patients on for a few weeks before open heart surgery if they are carrying too much weight. You cook up a big pot of vegetable soup and eat this and maybe a few bananas for the whole time. Very boring diet but it works.

Alternative is a trip to a third world country and eat what the locals eat. I guarantee that 2 months in Kupang in West Timor or Roti eating a local diet of rice, some free range chicken (tiny bones, no hormones), some fish, can-cun (spinach like vegetable) peanuts and possibly getting a dose of dysentry (but hopefully not dengue or malaria) and you'll come back skinny.

Could see all my ribs last time I was there-looked like a skinny kid. Anyone want to do a jv with me for a Jenny Craig weight loss clinic in Kupang? Only an hours flight from Darwin.

Easiest way to lose weight is to consume less calories than you expend, works everytime:)

Even if you ate fast food once or twice a day, the principle still applies.

Did anybody see the supposed diet of Olympic superstar Michael Phelps, 12000 calories/day, and he is super lean.

Do some weight training to build up some lean muscle mass, which in turn will burn calories.
Do some aerobic activity regularly, which will fasten up your metabolsm.
Consume less calories if you are still not losing.

The "easiest" way to lose weight is to spend a few thou on liposuction. For a little extra $$ you can get the fat transferred to your boobs. Pretty extreme though, I'd rather the 18kg.

Some people use weight-loss pills like Reductil, Tenuate, Duramine or Xenical...

Or, lap banding surgery...

I was always a active person that had no weight problems. Running, swimming, cycling, building properties.
Then I discovered wine, mixed with ice cream , coffee, biscuits and most of the day on S S.

Talk about wide screen growth:eek:

(Still eating the Aldi Choc Cake:D)

Bluecard- I really hate/envy women like your wife...it's not fair!!

Breastfeeding does work but once you stop, you do put the weight back on. Before I had Josh I was about 60kgs...(hae always been 52 -55kg but slacked off few yrs into marriage). Put on loads of weight pregnant, then about 6 weeks after birth, I lost all my pregnancy weight. But with brestfeeding I continued to lose even more and ppl were actually commenting how skinny I was to about 55kgs but once I stopped I was back to my pre pregnancy weight of about 59/60kgs.

This time around, I gained 12kgs!! by my 11 week check up to 72kgs but now at 19 weeks I'm still 72kgs.

Once I am done..I may contemplate on a mummy makeover...no matter even if you lose all the weight..your body is still never the same as it was pre pg.

Drink lots of water, keep yourself busy (increase metabolism levels), differentiate good carbs and bad cards i.e rice is good, pasta not too much, don't eat too much red meat etc

I hate exercising and I don't do any but I do keep myself active and busy. Walk a lot, shopping's good, and hosuework, work etc Drink a huge glass of hot boiled water after every meal.

I don't bother counting calories and I do eat a lot of junk food as well as eat out but just eat in moderation. If we go to Mcdonalds, I don't go for meals. A cheeseburger or fillet o fish is enough and maybe pick on a few fries and bring my own bottled water. I don't know how people can eat those KFC megapacks for one...that's enough for both of us and hubby is 90kgs. Also eat a lot of fruit and eat slow.....if at restaurant, don't order too much, often you will find your eyes are bigger than your tummy and if it's not enough you can always order more..also skip the entrees.

Hormones, Mark, hormones. I am thin by today's average (size 10 - 12) - actually an 11; so I do know about healthy diet and activity and am over the 40 years hump well and truly, but even so, the calories/exercise equation does not hold true once you hit the dreaded M phase. Try explaining why, when consumption of animal fats hasnt changed in years, women's cholesterol rises when menopause hits! A known and documented fact independent of diet.

lol - my wife has breastfed 3 kiddies and has managed to keep her weight to pre-preganacy levels. infact, she's 7kg lighter now than when she fell pregnant with the third.
Doesn't work for men though, does it?

I had to stop breastfeeding the first - I was going back to work soon anyway - because I lost too much weight.

This time last year I was 75kg, now I'm about 53. Still have a kilo or so to lose, but I'm still breastfeeding so it'll take care of itself. Probably should stop that soon. I eat a mildly ridiculous amount of food at the moment too ...

I look at it like this.
I nearly died of a ruptured appendix.6 weeks recovering on a drip.
Then kidney failure. Dialysis for a number of years.
Kidney Transplant:)
I take a lot of anti rejection medication and have to inject myself every week:eek:
Every couple of years end up in Intensive Care for a week with with something major.(Funny thing. Only get to Intensive Care for Major problems)

So I realise that a couple of extra kilos is not to bad.
Of course other worst option will reduce your weight VERY quickly:(

Don't want to go there yet

Hi Jess,

I'm with Kristine on this one.

I lost 13 kilos on Cohens and have now worked out what food does and doesn't work for me. I am 46 now and no longer eat bread and other carbs that just make me bloat. I struggled to lose any weight even though I thought I was eating healthy and doing a lot of exercise. Now I can actually control my weight through a healthy diet and just exercise for the enjoyment.

It really is worth a try. If you register for the new you forum and have a look at some of the before and after photos you will be blown away.

Cheers
