Google maps Australian property market

GOOGLE has added a real estate search to its Google Maps application in Australia - letting users quickly check out a property's "location, location, location" online.
The search covers buying and renting and lets users filter properties by type, price, location and real estate agent.

The properties are then displayed on the map, which automatically updates with relevant listings when panned or zoomed to another suburb or when the criteria is changed.

Clicking on a marker or a small circle provides more information about the listing, as well as the contact details of the listing agent and a link to their website.

Google spokesman Andrew Foster said the company had worked with local agents to provide a bank of listings before today’s launch.

Google real estate will find your dream house

Google's new real estate service adds property listings to their search options with users able to comb through hundreds of listings to find the house or unit that suits their taste and budget.

House hunters are able to enter criteria to refine their search including property type, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, parking and pricing.

Once the search is completed it is possible to not only see the house, the street and the neighbourhood on the map but a home buyer can click through to the actual listing and find more information and contact details.

"We thought it would be really useful to add property listings directly to Google maps to make it easier to discover house for sale or rent in a given geographic area across multiple companies and agents," Foster said.

"Location is such a key aspect of looking at real estate so what we've done is make the maps core to the search experience."

Maybe it has, but google owns the internet, and putting this into something like google maps will take off very quickly as people will see it searching the maps.

I heard something about google creating its own OS in the near future, as well. Will be interesting to see how it goes against MS.

the suburbview web site is powered by google maps, even when you click on a property it also gives you street view, another google feature.

I'm a bit surprised that groups like domain.com haven't taken more advantage of Google Maps and simply incorporated that data into their own listings.

If you're worried about Google as a business, the best way to beat them is to use their facilities to your advantage.
