Home Security Cameras

I have an 8 camera cctv system at home. Paid about $600 for it but not impressed with picture quality at all.
Setting it up to work on the internet was a nightmare. Finally managed it after allowing activex controls but my modem began playing up. Gave up in the end ,now I just use it when home.

With cctv cameras you get what you pay for. The Link shows the cameras only have 370 TV lines.... Rubbish in my opinion. ( mine have 700 TV lines for a crap picture).

The future in cctv is for IP.. Internet Protocol cameras. Like this -

I am not suggesting you buy from the Link - Just to give you an idea.

You should also check out Foscam. There are also a couple of good CCTVForums on the Net. I will find one and put up a Link.

EDIT - CCTV Forum Link -

In this techno advanced world in which we live why are the images from cctv so poor?

I've wondered similar about some CCTV cameras, when I know from experience you can get cameras to zoom into something a few hundred metres away, and get footage that's reasonably clear considering the distance.

Saw ?leaked footage the other night of insurgents being blown up.

Cameras apparently being operated from drones many miles away. Interesting .

It is all related to price. The cheapies are generally rubbish but there are exceptions. Of my 8 cameras - I would describe 2 of them as very good until the spiders begin weaving their webs all over them. Just have to clean them regularly. Cameras have to deal with differing levels of light all day long and the cheap ones cannot cope with it.

IP Cameras are much better but of course they cost more. Check out the review in the following Link. This is a Dahua IP Camera which can be bought on Aliexpress for around $130. It is an excellent camera -

But you also need software or an NVR to record the camera. The Link to the CCTV Forum and also the Link directly above explain all this.

Axis Camera's are pretty good.
I've also setup a few cisco ones.
You'r Internet connection will play a big part, most have fast downloads but poor uploads( required to view from the internet.)
Cheap ones are not worth the effort.
