My dad purchased a brand new townhouse in Clayton South from Austcorp a couple of years and recently received a letter from the sro that Austcorp had defaulted on their land tax on the property and dad owes them $4.5k as the current owner of the property.
Apparently Austcorp had collapsed not long after dad settled on the property, and for whatever reason the conveyancer/lawyer did not check/detect this land tax.
Anyone had any experience with this situation? Is there a recourse against the lawyer/conveyancer for their negligence in checking the land tax or a way to negotiate with the SRO?
