Local Council Regulations

Hey guys and gals,

How do you find out the local council regulations for subdivision/developments?

Do you contact them and they have like an info sheet with rules and requirements that you have to follow (e.g. certain frontage, etc)?

I would like to find a block, with decent frontage with an old bomb on it (but with good neighbours) and knock it down and build a duplex, one at the front and one at the back with a common wall and a driveway coming down one side to get to the rear house.

I'm looking at doing something like this in a few years. Sell one, other CF+

Council regulations??

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Some councils are more helpful than others. You need to get a copy of the local DCP and LEP from the council which is found on their website. There will be a hell of a lot of information to sift through but it should be well organised into specific development sections. If it is over your head you can go and talk to a council planner or hire your own private town planner to assess your development site when you find it. Council duty planners are on the desk most of the time and cost nothing for general information. Appointments with more senior planners and engineers may cost a fee for a more indepth meeting.

Good luck with it. RS :)
