Mackay Flood

Here are some pictures of our place the day before yesterday. There were far more dramatic scenes, but most didn't make it onto the news as it was near impossible to get to the places that were worst affected. We got off fairly lightly compared to many who have lost all their possesions.
We actually still have water restrictions here too.:D

Hi Louise

Hope there is not too much damage to your home.

A word of advice to anyone flooded anywhere:

After the Brisbane floods when hubby's parent's house went under up to the top of the windows, we saved ALL their photos. Advice was given to keep them wet until the opportunity arose to dry them properly. We put their albums in plastic garbage bins and then every night we spread newspaper all over our lounge and dining room floors and gradually removed the photos from the albums, washed them and laid them out to dry.

The old black and white ones came up perfectly, the colour ones were badly affected by the muck in the water.

By the same method we salvaged all their personal papers.

Just remember not to let them dry out before you can salvage them.

Good luck!

Hi Marg,

Thanks for that. Just about all my mother in laws things have been covered by floodwater. I am drying some of her photos on oven racks. I plan to get another friend who is right into photography to scan and reprint them. She may even be able to edit out some of the damage.
I have just about finished washing and drying their clothes and linen - all good as new. All furniture, beds and appliances are saturated. I am hoping we can dry out fridge, freezer and washing machine. I see many people just ditching them though. The washing machine was completely submerged.
