Measurement Unit in Old Subdivision Plans?

Gday All! Hope this is not a stupid question.

I have my property's plan from my conveyancer.

The plan of subdivision is from 1885.

I always thought lots were measure in feet.

The plan shows the block is 50 x 175.

But my block only has a 10m frontage, 350m2.

50 doesn't make sense as it would then be 15m frontage which it is not.

In lots of the old subdivisions the units are 'chains'. 1 Chain = ~20m. So in your case, your actual measurements are:

0.50 Chains x 1.75 Chains = 0.875 Square Chains

In modern metric terms, this is:

10 m x 35 m = 350 sqm
