It's a bit of a joke anyway. When it first came in, I, like many others, just took out the cheapest policy I could get (what I think of as the Part IVa policy - ie. the tax avoidance policy ). Essentially it gave me nothing but saved me paying the surcharge. The policy only needs to be private patient cover, not private hospital cover, and the policy I had was for private patient in a public hospital. However, it was basically useless and I just continued to use Medicare and the public system.
What it did allow though was John Howard to crap on about how his new policy was getting a pile of high income earners into the private health system, but he didn't mention that many were continuing to use the public system anyway because of these do-nothing policies. All hot air and no substance.
