I have never heard anyone refer to men in equal partnerships as being metrosexual.

Metrosexual is a neologism, derived from metropolitan and heterosexual, coined in 1994 describing a man (especially one living in an urban, post-industrial, capitalist culture) who is especially meticulous about his grooming and appearance, typically spending a significant amount of time and money on shopping as part of this.[1] The term is popularly thought to describe heterosexual men who adopt fashions and lifestyles stereotypically associated with homosexuals, although, by definition given by the originator (see below), a metrosexual "might be officially gay, straight or bisexual".
No, I am not suggesting women prefer a man's man--that is what you have inferred. There is a whole spectrum of 'manliness'--from the effeminate to the Neanderthal--and the notion of manliness is constantly changing. If by 'metrosexual men' you are referring to men who pluck their eyebrows, wax and use skincare, that is more because of the rising objectification of men in the media. If, by 'metrosexual', you mean that more men than ever now take part in the raising of their children, see their marriage as an equal partnership and are more emotionally available, more power to them--that is a good thing and a signal that we are evolving as human beings.
