Moving a house

Was wondering if anyone has experience or can provide some details on moving a weatherboard house on the same block, which would then provide enough room to build a new house and sub div. I remember reading an article about it in API years ago.

The house needs renovating but far too solid/good to knock down. We're talking Glen Eira council area of Melbourne.

Was looking at a property recently were the house was encroaching
over the two blocks by about 1 metre and the figure mentioned by
the agent from a house mover was $10,000 but Im not sure if that
included restumping.

Talk with council.

The main concern would be once you lift that puppy up if council needs you to bring it up to meet the current building code once you try to put it back down again (even on the same block).

I would be guessing $ 10 K to move another $ 5 - $ 10 K for new stumps if needed.

Plus any upgrades that I would be asking about:

Insulation
Tie downs
Roof upgrades to current wind rating
Tanks
Painting
Having to change from electrical to gas or solar hot water
Stairs
Lights
Bird and vermin proofing
Bond until upgrades are done

Some of those you may already be planning on doing anyway.

Cheers,

Fourex.

Hi

I have done numerous myself and clients have done loads more. What would you like to know?

They tend to use sunlight soap to slide the house, sand to stop it sliding. Once moved the steel and footings make it better than new subfloor wise. New electrics, plumbing and roof and all of the bigt ticket future repairs are done with for decades.
