Presenter & Subject: Kieran Trass on “the Property Cycle”

Who is Kieran Trass?: Kieran has worked in property for two decades as an investor, financier and advisor. He heads up the Hybrid Group of companies specialising in services for residential property investors. Kieran was a founder of the Auckland Property Investors Association and a past Secretary of the New Zealand Property Investors Federation.

He commenced his career in the finance industry in 1981. He has worked for many financial institutions including Citibank N.A., Westpac Trust (in New Zealand and Australia) Nathan Finance and UDC Finance. Kieran actively 'practices what he preaches' using the same property investment strategies he promotes through the Hybrid Group.

Often quoted in the media Kieran also invests much time writing quarterly commentaries for the Hybrid 'Hotspots Reports' to answer the question of WHERE to invest in property. He has recently published his book 'Grow Rich with the Property Cycle' (Penguin Books 2004) to share his expertise on the critical topic of the Property Cycle and to answer the questions of WHEN and HOW to invest wisely in property.

Subject in Detail: Kieran will provide a 2 hour overview of the concept of the property cycle, what drives it, how to use it be countercyclical and use the property cycle to your financial advantage.

As provided by Kieran…..

When I first began studying and analysing the concept of a property cycle I almost did not want to believe that it may exist or, if it did, that it may even be quite predictable. I thought that if a property cycle actually existed and it could be predicted then surely more people would have already used it to their financial advantage and the secret would already be out! To my pleasant surprise I found enough evidence to conclude that the property cycle clearly does exist. It has some immutable aspects, is measurable and also is quite predictable. I also gained some insight into why more people do not use it to their advantage.

My research culminated in writing my book which I sent to 4 publishers. All 4 wanted to publish it! I chose an international publishing brand being Penguin Books.

The contents of my book are based on research of the cyclical events that drive the property market, together with my first hand observations of the New Zealand property market, over several property cycles. I also considered the property cycle at work in the Australian, UK and USA markets. I found evidence that the same property cycle exists in Australia.

I also interviewed thousands of property investors to gain an insight into their own observations and experiences in the property market.

Understanding the big picture concept of the property cycle provides an insight into why the property market reacts the way it does. It also reveals how you can use the property cycle to your financial advantage and which investment strategies are likely to produce better results during the specific phases of the property cycle.

Please Note: Kieran will also be offering for sale his book on his subject however as is SIG policy, attendance is free and no-one will be pressured to buy. :)

Having said that, the book has been given some great reviews in Somersoft and is not available in Aust. bookstores at the moment.

Kieran is in Australia for two nights only so is (at this stage) unlikely to present at the other IGs in the near future.

How Do I Get on the List: Post Here on this Thread your name and numbers (limit of 4) and it is first in, best dressed. Please do not PM me unless the matter is personal/confidential as I get too many.

See you there! This should be very informative session considering the present market balance.

Regards,

Guys, I would love to go to some of these events. BUT you always have them on a Tuesday. Any chance that Mondays would be just as good for everyone?

i have a long standing commitment on tuesday evenings, so mondays would be better for me as well (or maybe they could alternate?), but put me down for 1 thanks.

some friends of mine would like to come , can you please reserve another 2 spaces for them so that is 4 in total, Cathy and Ash + Karina and Will. (I had originally requested 2 earlier in the post.)

thanks,
karina
