Public Warning - Media Statement

Warning about Nobby Holdings, Bathrooms Australia and Brenton and Sarah Butler

Consumers, contractors and suppliers have been urged to use extreme caution in their dealings with Brenton Wayne Butler and Sarah Jane Butler and the companies Nobby Holdings Pty Ltd and Bathrooms Australia Pty Ltd.

Earlier this year, the Building Services Authority successfully prosecuted the Butlers and their related companies (including Simply Bathrooms Renovations Qld Pty Ltd and Simply Bathrooms Australia Pty Ltd) for offences related to the Queensland Building Services Authority Act 1991 and the Domestic Building Contracts Act 2000.

However, BSA General Manager, Ian Jennings, said Mr and Mrs Butler were still undertaking building work without holding an appropriate BSA licence.

He said a related company, Nobby Holdings Pty Ltd, was also involved in unlawful building work and he believed the Butlers could be coordinating the work from outside Australia.

“The Butlers do not hold BSA licences and are not able to carry out or enter into contracts to carry out building work, including bathroom renovations, in Queensland,” he said.

“These entities are also not able to undertake building work services including administration, advisory, management or supervisory services.”

The BSA is investigating defective work complaints concerning work coordinated by Mr and Mrs Butler, and suspected breaches of the above Acts, including unlawful building work.

“The BSA warns anyone, including BSA-licensed contractors, dealing with the Butlers to exercise extreme caution and seek legal advice before making any commitments or payments, to protect their interests.”

Consumers and contractors can check if the entity they are contracting with is licensed or holds the correct licence to do the work, by contacting the BSA on 1300 272 272 or conducting an online licence search at www.bsa.qld.gov.au
