Raising a house - Brisbane Northside

We are looking into raising our Queenslander (10m x 10m) and putting a slab under. Not looking at building under at this point, much as I would like to.

The block is slightly sloping and we may need to excavate as well as raise the house. It would be nice to dig up the back yard so we have a flatter block (they always look good) but that would mean digging up a lot of earth.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with raising their property and if you could share your story or any tips/traps to watch for.

Also could you recommend a house raising company and what sort of costs we might be looking at?

Any comments / suggestions most welcome.

if you can get hold of several large I beams, plenty of hardwood timber chocks and other basic item do it yourself...mind you if you have had no buidling experience before i wouldnt attempt it especially on a sloping block.......its a slow process, jacking up each end and you will want a few guys to help to make it easier

hiring someone could cost anything, $40-80k..really depends on what you are wanting done...

only issue i ever had was relocating a gas pipe a few yaers ago for one..............let the gas company do it!!!

plenty of pitfalls if you or your friends dont have a clue too numerous to mention..

i actually went out every weekend with a mate who worked for a company and learn't some basics..my house was on level ground though...

I would strongly advise against doing the job yourself. Do you have insurance to cover the house if it falls (they do) and if you or anyone else is insured (that happens too)?.

We have used Budget Restumping for many years. Don Simpson is the man to talk to. I believe he used to be one of the stumpers with full insurance cover, including cover to the house if it falls, but of course, check it out yourself.

hey where abouts onbrisbanenorthhside because i know ofa companyarund Burbengary who spcialise in mmoving huses andraising they would be the best to speak to i would think 30k would cut out raising a place.

I used a company that moves houses at Burpengary a few years ago and would never recommend them to anyone. Ripped me off and did a crap job, I took 2 weeks off work just to fix the things they stuffed up
