Seaford Beachside = Very Relaxing, but..

Yeah - I wondered what happened there! Random asterisks!

I guess my larger point (with a little bit of p*ss taking) is that there has to be a market to sustain activities such as yoga, ballet, kite surfing, ****a eating, coffee drinking....

In any case - I checked out Carrum Primary today and suggest anyone with kidlets do the same. It's just had a major revamp - looks awesome. Prep teachers seem pretty switched on. It's important you do a bit more research on schools beyond MySchool - that's the lazy way. Think of flow on effects to surrounding schools when those with good reps are zoned eg Patterson Lakes. The new state (Liberal) member for Carrum promised capital funding to Seaford North Primary...whether this happens or not??? But see my previous point regarding the new principal.

But all in all - don't take it too seriously. Just open your eyes, spend some time in Seaford, grab some fish and chips and hang out on the beach.

Be careful of making snap judgements.

Not sure if Fifth lives in Seaford? Has an interest in Seaford? I declared mine and so people can take my opinion with a grain of salt ;) Which I'm sure they do with everything on Somersoft!

Fifth! Why are you so negative? Perhaps you are stuck in an inner city smog hole suburb living in a unit and don't get enough exercise. Or have bought in Brighton and are mortgaged to the hilt. Maybe you should add some fun and relaxation to your life...take up 'kite surfing', 'cycling' or 'ballet', chill out and enjoy life my man.

No, I don't live in Seaford. I'm familiar with the area. I have an interest in many Melbourne suburbs. Every bayside suburb between Seaford and the CBD is more expensive. I can't see Seaford surpassing any of those suburbs in the short to mid-term. This is my opinion. Apparently one must only say positive things when discussing certain suburbs. In future, I'll pepper my opinions with rainbows and pony rides through the forest.

It's a fine place to live if you work locally, such as having a local business there or whatever. But if you're doing the daily grind into work at the CBD - it's definitely not where you want to live.

Are you suggesting if you work in the city you are better off living in Mulgrave than Seaford???!??! You've got to be kidding aren't you? I grew up in Mulgrave and now live in Seaford and I can certainly tell you I would hapily sit on the train everyday sipping my coffee and reading the paper for 50 mins after a 5 min walk to the station than sit in the monash carpark for an hour breathing in fumes and unable to drink/read or do anything but get frustrated at the traffic and fuel bill and lets not talk about the parking issues.

I cant see anything much to do in Mulgrave either....poor access to anything but waverley gardens unless you drive i'd rather jump on the train for 2 stops to frankston for just about anything i need or jump on the bike for a 15 min ride - with bike tracks everywhere, good fishing of the pier, canoing, swimming, walking track and easy access to peninsula i can't see any comparison really (altho i admit i'm biased!)

A purely a subjective and pointless comparison.
I have houses in both Sydney NS and Melbourne inner bayside within walking distance to the beach. Why? Because I personally cannot stand to be surrounded by house after house in suburbia. That is the definition of "boring" to me. I like nothing more than to look out over the water and feel a sense of freedom and escape.
I have a couple of friends in Patterson Lakes. One has a house on the canal with his private beach and he docks his boat outside his house. For a short time, a well-known cricketer lived next door. He can canoe or have a moments access to the bay via Patterson River. He enjoys nothing more than to drop anchor and enjoy a cold one in Summer. He works for one of the world's biggest IT companies that supports work from home so he only gets on a train once or twice a week.
Another friend has a house on the peninsula and enjoys the easy access the freeway offers.
Yet another friend lives in Edithvale and is an avid cyclist and will ride on beautiful Beach Road in the mornings before most people wake up. He can cycle on uninterrupted road on arguably the most spectacular route in Australia moments from his house. A quick 80 kms is his idea of living.
If you are Asian, you will most likely prefer Mulgrave because it is closer to Glen Waverley, Box Hill, Chadstone for eateries and shopping. Your house will more likely be a more recent construction which will be important. And you will want to be closer to Chadstone. Shopping to me is probably the most boring thing in the world (though I do like the finer things in life).
However, if you really want to have a night life you must be in inner bayside or closer because suburbia is so "boring".
So, it's horses for courses. You cannot make a subjective statement on what is "boring" and what is "exciting" because it means different things to different people.

Update on primary school zoning Carrum/Seaford

Hi,
Just thought I would provide an update to those interested:

Carrum Primary is now zoned. The border cuts off on Eel Race Road - the zone is a very small area of Carrum.

Patterson Lakes has been zoned for some time.

Cheers,
Marais

What do you mean zoned?

Zoned into? What was it before?

you're kidding right? sitting in a train for close to an hour from frankston?

bike tracks, fishing and canoing... sounds like summer camp compared to people who actually need to work. yeah i might swim in my apartment pool at 6pm but already it's a bit late. sometimes i might want to grab something to eat which is convenient coz the casino is open 24/7. again depends on what you into. i only go outdoors to the bush every couple of months or so.

Zoned into? What was it before?

Zoned means the school has reached capacity and will only take children from the surrounding area. This usually happens when a school acquires a good reputation and children are enrolled from out of area - Carrum has had to contain numbers. See my previous posts about the flow on affect to surrounding schools after Patterson Lakes Primary was zoned a few years ago.

See also public highschool zoning eg: Balwyn, Frankston High, McKinnon.
