Setting up a website

and quality photos are vital! i found my camera phone was good enough, but it was a 5 megapixel. need to get good focus and light, uncluttered and show the wow detail. bit like selling a house really.

you've got to remember that you're buyers can't touch, feel etc the garment so you need to give as much positve detail as possible to engage them emotionally.

Wordpress is free an easy, i set this up in 5 mins so you can all see how easy it is to use.
I'll keep it there a couple days.

1. login:
http://pistonbroke.me/wp-admin/
user = piston
pw = broke

2. click "posts" top left

3. click "Add new"

4. Start typing
click the icon on the far right for more options including adding pics & video

5. click "publish" on the right hand side, and it online.

You can then add another post, or click "view post" at the top of the page.

ps when you register a .com.au you have to give out your details as well, .com .net .org .me you can keep them private.
So doing a "whois" dont get much info.

Then you can check it out and let me know how bad it is.:p
You want me to test out skating leotards? Sure lol

The other part of the exercise is seeing how long it takes for the posts to appear in google search.
I simply cut & pasted my post from here and it automatically put in the pic & links. Too easy.

I do think google is not very fond of .me urls, normally posts appear in around ~24hrs, so I'll see what happens.

And btw It can't be "broken", sure you can delete posts & pages but in a "live" situation they'd be a backup.

edit:
3 clicks and it got a new theme

ok, the default setting is "search engines off" now, maybe because google has a bout 1.6 mil results for the wordpress default page lol.

edit:
ok I spruced the site a little bit, added from freely available articles and a couple product examples.

The search engines have definetly been crawling, but nothing on search yet.

Thankyou everybody for your help.

I've put that idea on hold for the moment

I had to call a skate supplier for some info and asked if they were taking any leotards to Nationals (starts beginning Oct) and they said they weren't, but would be interested in some on a consignment basis. So, yesterday I've been cutting out like mad. Sewing today.

I'll re-look at what to do when I get back, but that won't be until the end of October cause we're having a holiday before we go back home. Since we will be in Adelaide, we will go up to Ayres Rock and travel back home via Qld.

I'm going to be full on until then, so I've got a decent stock. I don't know if I'll sell one or a hundred. I was thinking of attaching some swing tags with a facebook page, so that I can take any orders via that. I know I can't set up a shopping cart on a facebook page (or can I?), but if I have a way for people to contact me, I can arrange payment through bank transfer. What do you think?

I still think a 2-page site with a blurb and a reasonably complex contact form is the way to go, you can link it in from a Facebook page. And make sure the URL is stuck to any receipt you give to anyone who doesn't come via your site :)

We give people fridge magnets with our url/details on. We fix computers, and computers just happen to be excellent things to stick fridge magnets to. Maybe for clothes you get it printed on a cloth tag and sew it to your leotards! That way, if your leotards get handed down, the next owner knows where to get more.

Piston Broke, I hadn't looked at that wordpress site since you originally posted. I've been busy getting my machines serviced and tidying up after hubby changed the whole house around (long story, but I won't go into that now). All I can say is WOW, that is amazing! How long did that take? Where on earth did you find the material to go on there? I am really impressed. As soon as I get back, I'm going to have to really look into that.

Hire a outsourcer from scriptlance (very cheap to set everything up for you)

if you want to build the site yourself with shopping cart wordpress etc get hosting with fantastico instead of bothering installing wordpress/osc/cube etc manually.

use facebook to adervtise create a group/skating fan page etc

eg: 1million ausssie woman skaters, once you hit 5000 fan pages go viral

and you have a target base you can send an update to sell your leotards.

not much poiint using seo and getting usa market if you don't want to sell

to the usa.

I use PlanetDomain.com to register a domain.
eg AussieLeotards.com, only costs about $15pa.
I've used Google sites and other programs to do web site.... does take a long time though.
The main question is..... can you produce these cheaper than you could buy them from China?
I think the suggestion of a generic site with custom options would be the go..... sell cheap chinese ones (or your own, but I doubt you could justify your time for the price) and sell custom fit ones at a premium. Maybe sponsor some events or take out ads in a magazine?

I had forgotten about it lol.
Did'nt take long, I'd say about 2 hours max all up.
The site look is a free Wordpress template.
That material came from ezinearticles, and the products from Amazon (with my added comments).
ezinearticles can be used in exchange for a link to the writers website (this is a form of advertising for them).
You can display your own and many products from which you and earn a commission as well.
Though sales won't be that great unless you have a lot of visitors, unless they are directed there from yourself.
Given your experience writing content/tips should'nt be a problem for you.
.com or .com.au is also an issue.
If you want to establish a long term authority site, .com is the way imo.
If you want a local site where to send people to buy your products .com.au is the go.
Of course you can do both.

As a side note typing
Which Type of Skates Do I Want
in google lists this site on the first page, number 6 from "About 1,690,000 results". Not bad.

There's people out there who would brag about that and charge $100 for a 2hr seminar for the info... but though not bad, it really don't mean much.

They are a specialist article. Most skaters purchase them from someone who makes them at home. Very little in the way of commercial product comes into Australia. They take little time to make AND I have a large linen cupboard full of lycra. I'm not planning on getting rich through making leotards, just cleaning up the house. :p I also don't work full time, so making a few each week is no problem.

Custom ones do sell for a premium and I have made plenty of them before, but my former clients have long left the sport. I need a client base before I can get the custom jobs.

Obviously people have found it. There are a couple of replies to stuff that you have put on there as well as someone thanking you for the info.

Another lesson:
The comments are spam placed there to provide a link to their website.
I deleted 11 of them, there are automatic antispam plugins available, free.
But any popular site will attract spammers.

You should NEVER EVER type in your personal email anywhere online.

Which btw is why i deleted your email. (silly gurl :p )
Get a free email from somewhere and use that instead, only exceptions being financial institutions and like orgs you deal with.

Anything online that is free, will use your email as spam.
Unless your dealing with a reputable company and you want to read their privacy policy, never give them your personal email.
I get weekly requests by husslers wanting mail lists to spam.

No one would run a seminar and charge for a keyphrase that only has 612 competing sites, there isn't 1.6million PB lol

not to worry your not the first to make this mistake:p
