Smoke Alarms

Hi All,
I am about to put mains powered (with battery backup) smoke alarms throughout my IP's. Are you allowed to wire the circuit off the unswitched active of a lighting circuit or does it need to have its own designated circuit.

I would have thought that you would need to get a licensed electrican to do this for you...........
