What a terrible terrible mess ... that explosion was massive and very frightening.

This is not the first major industrial explosion in Texas.

A small city was levelled by a similar explosion back in 1947. The blowup caused a mini tsunami that was detected over a hundred miles away! The below link makes for interesting reading:

A huge amount of energy released in that explosion!

We had an interesting conversation about this at work this morning.

Offshore Oil and Gas facilities get frequent visits by the Regulator some as many as 4 times per year.

Factories like this one often only get visited every 3 or 5 years depending on risk. Some would say a lot of this timeline is dictated by staff shortages within the various agencies.

Scary stuff when you see the impact of what can happen when it goes wrong!

I have an MSc in Safety & Risk Management and did several case studies on disasters similar to this, the sad fact is this incident will now go down in history as one of those case studies!!!
