Toxic tap water in Australia

Anyone wanting to buy a Alkaline water filter can contact me. I have a friend selling it.

It filters out chlorine etc from the water, and turns it into alkaline water which is really good for neutralising acidity in the blood.

It filters out chlorine etc from the water,

Have you any idea how stupid that statement is? Chlorine is a dissolved gas and therefore cannot be filtered out of the water any more than you can filter salt out of water in a physical filter.

The good news is that it is totally harmless unless you have gills and are swimming in it and it evaporates within minutes of coming out of your tap. There certainly wont be any in your filtered water but nor will there be any in the unfiltered water in your fridge.

If there was no chlorine you may get sick if you didn't boil all your water for one minute. Maybe you would be happier living in the Sub-Sahara.

Whilst undoubtedly wise for fish tank water, our bodies maintain blood pH within a very narrow band using protein buffers, gas exchange (respiratory system), and controlling excretion via the kidneys. I don't believe that pH in the diet is even "a" factor, let alone a significant factor. Via what mechanism would the pH of drinking water influence blood pH? And what evidence is there that any significant portion of the population have difficulty maintaining their blood pH within the healthy range, such that any intervention is required?

Why the hell would we want to?? I understand they play loud disco music during the procedure!

LOL - yes indeed :)

But anyway... removing flouride from tap water is just coocoo IMO. Next thing we'll be told to wear tin foil hats so that major league baseball cant read our minds.

hahaha love this one.

the flouride conspiracy theory is actually buried in partial truth.

there was no need for flouride in drinking water - never has been, really, especialy since the advent of toothpaste.

however, sodium flouride which is the ACTUAL fluoride type used in drinking water is a waste product of alumina refinement. the timing of the release of this product into America's waterways seems a little close to the timing of the emergnece of mass-scale aluminium use in the aviation industry.

sodium flouride is also used on sensitive X ray equipment for bone scans - funny the timing for push for flouridated water in Perth now we have a walk-thru x-ray machine here in our airport - no, i don't see 'just' a co-incidence here.

NaF also blocks the receptors required to get calcium to our bones more effectively.

while the conspiracy to poison 50% of the population is a little stretched, we're certainly being fed BS and an amount our bodies can handle without killing us.

HHHmmmm.... maybe I should run out and telll my dentist and doctors they are wrong!

I have nearly no enamal on my teeth and have suffered from dental problems my entire life, both my doctor and dentist(s) (all of them, and I have seen quite a few over the years) have said that this is most likely a direct result of growing up in an area that did not provide flouride in the water, and a general lack of flouride in my diet as a developing baby and young child. My dentists recommend I regularly use a flouride gel and leave it soak directly on my teeth. (my mother who grew up in an regional QLD before flouride was added to the water, also had the same problem and had false teeth by the
time she was 20yrs old).

Statistically rates of tooth decay have decreased significantly since the introduction of flouride into the water system.

My current obstatrician (as well as all my previous ones through other pregnancies) have all recommended I drink more tap water and less bottled water, specifically for the flouride, as well as ensuring my pregnancy multivitimin contains fouride, to ensure the proper devolopment of my unborn baby.

But I will be sure to go back and tell them all not to worry, that someone on the internet has told me that flouride is actually 'toxic' for my health!

One of my mates is a dentist and he can tell if a child has been drinking bottled water in lieu of tap water the minute he peers into their mouth.

Rugrat, son #2 has the same problem, so his specialist childrens dentist and gastroenterologist must be wrong as well.

His problem was silent reflux however, that slowly started resolving from around 8yo.

There is/was a lot of 'visible' evidence of increased tooth decay where there is/was no fluoride in water, in the absence of a bad diet and habits.

My son has extra topical fluoride and both Dr. and dentist assure me it's safe.

I'd say they're more likely to be right that a bunch of people on a forum :p.

i'm sure it's got nothing to do witht he fact the kid never brushes their teeth.

toothpaste has more flouride in it per gram than tap water and would have a more direct effect on someone's teeth considering the time and effort toothpaste is exposed to teeth, rather than water idly sloshing past. if this were also the case, then their fingernails would be in pretty p

*edit* flouride deficiency in QLD is just a prominet as zinc deficiency in the West. A lack of zinc is one of many root causes of mild depression, and considering per capita WA has the highest rate of usage of anti-depressant drugs (higher in TOTAL than NSW and QLD until 2009) that would go a long way to support the claim. The addition of flouride in drinking water also co-incides with it's addition to toothpaste, so the results clearly will never be unbiased or untainted.*

Aaron, How do you know this?

How do I know what? point 1 you could probably just google. point 2 you could probably just google, as well. point 3 i learned from my wife who is studying naturopathy.

Aaron, How do you know this?

He doesn't.

A 1992 census found that, for U.S. public water supply systems reporting the type of compound used, 63% of the population received water fluoridated with fluorosilicic acid, 28% with sodium fluorosilicate, and 9% with sodium fluoride.[34]

And of course medical imaging uses Fluorine-18 based NaF, which is definitely not the stuff that gets added to drinking water when NaF is used.

Fluoride's effects depend on the total daily intake of fluoride from all sources.[12] About 70–90% of ingested fluoride is absorbed into the blood, where it distributes throughout the body. In infants 80–90% of absorbed fluoride is retained, with the rest excreted, mostly via urine; in adults about 60% is retained. About 99% of retained fluoride is stored in bone, teeth, and other calcium-rich areas, where excess quantities can cause fluorosis.[47] Drinking water is typically the largest source of fluoride.[12] In many industrialized countries swallowed toothpaste is the main source of fluoride exposure in unfluoridated communities.[48] Other sources include dental products other than toothpaste; air pollution from fluoride-containing coal or from phosphate fertilizers; trona, used to tenderize meat in Tanzania; and tea leaves, particularly the tea bricks favored in parts of China.

A little bit of google is a dangerous thing...

i'm sure it's got nothing to do witht he fact the kid never brushes their teeth.

If the teeth lack a strong enamel brushing achieves little. It's all the carb assaults immediately after food and between brushing, that do most of the damage.

In fact brushing directly after eating can do more damage than good.

Swishing with water after sweet drinks and to a lesser extent food, is probably more effective in preventing decay, but who does that?
