Visiting the local Council for information when buying a property!

Hi!

I am wanting to know from other property investors whether they visit the local council of where they are intending to purchase a property, to find out information on the property?

What sort of information can be obtain from the Council that is crucial when purchasing a property?

Regards
John

If you don't know the area well you can get some great information about future projects, infrastructure proposals, demographics etc.

If you're looking at purchasing a property, you'll probably want to check through council records relating to that property for things such as the building plans, level of flood risk, previous building inspections as well as council rates for the property. You might want other information such as that about zoning and utilities as well depending on what you intend to do with the property.

Also, beyond the council itself, you should check other government department reports or information online regarding planned infrastructure, developments and other planned projects. Much of this information is available online. Just out of interest, in which council area are you looking at purchasing a property?
