Viynl Planking

Howdy

Anyone done a DIY job of laying Viynl planking?
Seems straightforward but it is a big thing to get wrong.

Cheers :)

If you are referring to the 'floating floor' type, then I've watched them being laid in my new house a few years back.

The floor laying guy had all the equipment to get it done quickly and it didn't look too hard to do. Since my house had a huge number of corners that he had to work around, that seemed to have been the biggest pain in the **** for him.

Other than that, I would possibly venture doing it myself if I really really felt like it.... but I"d rather stick to painting and tiling :)

We're looking at vinyl planks vs laminate flooring and the salesperson told us the installation of the planks is actually a lot harder than it looks. He said that laminate is easy and pretty much anyone is able to do it, but the vinyl is a specialised task and takes a bit to get right. If it's going on existing flooring that's not 100% level, I'd be paying the extra $$$ for someone else to do it.

Just done a IP kitchen using vinyl planks.

Fairly easy to do, just need a stanley knife, straight edge and a ruler.
Used a good quality plank rather than the bunnings variety.

depending on your floor you may need Masonite or leveling, but the good quality ones can probably go straight down. As there is no glue if you make a mistake just pick them up again and start over.

plenty of videos on you tube which are handy, except all seem to have a straight wall to start on which i never came across.

I did it last year in an IP. I was surprised at how easy it was to do. And how good it looked. I just laid it over some existing lino.

What's the ball park per sqm, and supplier you used if I may ask? Laminate can go as cheap as $10 sqm from what I can find (crappy one maybe, but still...), but I can't seem to find Vynil planks cheaper that $30 per sqm? :(

I'm pretty sure I paid less than $20 per sqm.
Got them from a bloke in Marrickville called Vince. I can't remember the name of his business. He sells carpet tiles (I've used them a few times) and the vinyl planking.
Allow a bit of time. He likes to talk about himself. But equally, he is happy to show you how the things go together etc.

There would be a thread in 'Adding Value' when I did that cheap and cheerful reno back in October/November last year.

Paid $52 per sqm from one of the carpet shops in Tamworth. These were allot better quality and twice as thick as the ones you get at bunnings for around $25 sqm.

placed these straight onto floorboards after taking up the old laminate, the thinner kinds would have needed masonite so another $10 sqm plus the hassle.

If you have a flat concrete surface, i'd probably use the cheaper stuff.
