Hi

- Watched every season of Mad Men
- Watched every season of Sons of Anarchy
- Watched every season of Suits
- Watched every season of The Blacklist

That's all folks :(
#1 Procrastinator

Hi Jamie,

I just started watching season 1 and 2 of Sons of Anarchy great show... I am lucky that when I work late I do get to watch a episode or two :)

In terms of 2015 goals. I've made an important health goal that I'm already 30% towards achieving as I started in late November, a useful system to get a head start on the new year resolutions :)

Looking back on 2014 it seems to be a case of you never get 100% of what you are seeking to achieve, at least in my case, but you can do quite nicely in a good year and where you focus your attention does seem to be important on where you end up.

Scott Adams (Dilbert comic author) new book is an interesting read and has some opinions on goals vs systems

I am just a noob here, nevertheless :
  • Emigrated to Australia
  • Fell in love with a sultry city (though I used to hate this weather)
  • Flew 360 degrees across the globe in a double leg ticket
  • Ploughed through all my savings and bought a PPOR
  • Got inspired reading other members IPs and (wonder where their money tree is :)) working on wanting to own 3 IPs in the next 5 years.
  • Fixed a 12 year old torn cartilage in one of them knees
  • Binge watched all of the most popular TV shows on Netflix

Inspirational thread guys, good stuff.

For me;

- 41% earnings growth in my private company, business is producing substantial free cash flow and tracking at another 35% growth this financial year.
- established operations in Manila, all working well
- established SMSF and started using family trust for stock investments drawing on PPOR LOC.
- bought our dream PPOR, managed a simultaneous settlement on our last place, sold that for more than expected and bought our new place for less than expected. A huge win.
- read about 20 investment books, have clarified long term goals and working through a very detailed investment plan after identifying my way of investing...it's been a long journey to get here.
- as part of above, have worked out a property investment plan that will work for me which I expect to be part of the mix in coming years. Ie. I know property type and number, ownership structure, specific areas etc just waiting for entry point which I expect to to be 2017/8. This is just part of the overall plan, IP being just one component of my portfolio.

Just wanted to take the opportunity to wish all Somersofters the very best for 2015 and thank you guys for sharing your knowledge and experience :)

Brought in 2014 in NYC
Spent 4 weeks travelling around the states
Ran half marathon
Purchased IP 6
Got a pay rise
Travelled to Singapore, india and Dubai
Purchased IP 7

Bring on 2015!!!!

This is a wonderful thread with many inspiring posts. I'm a little late, but last year (2014) achieved the following:

1) Upgraded PPOR and kept old PPOR as an IP
2) Organized old PPOR to be tidied up (painted etc) before we moved out and new tenants came in.
3) Bought new furniture etc for the new PPOR
4) Bought a brand new Grand Piano - (Yamaha CX7) which we are all really enjoying!
5) Dipped my toe into commercial real estate albeit through a property trust
6) Have been purchasing shares in our Family Trust with the intention of generating passive income.
7) This doesn't quiet fit in this last year's achievements, but thought it was worth mentioning. Traveled Europe (10 countries) with family from Sept - Dec 2013. Had a great time.

Health wise - have been unwell this year, needing an operation and 3 months off work. Feeling much better now though! :D

Plans for 2015

1) Probably will set up a SMSF and invest in index funds.
2) Continue to buy shares in the Family Trust.
3) Will monitor our property portfolio. May begin selling down and diverting the money to shares in the Family Trust.

4) No plans to buy anymore IP's at this stage! :D

Fully exit the rat race.

Financial independence passively generated from residential real estate investment.

Relocated interstate.

Creating multiple streams of income for charitable donation.

Mentoring others who want to attain the same.

Wow, you are my inspiration... perhaps we are not yet there but in 10 years time should be that's the plan!
Well, at least when kids finish schools and UNIs.... otherwise it is hard to move anywhere, when we still have dependants, right?

We actively started out on our journey with a one year old. Today he is 16 and has a 14 year old brother.

Sometimes the only inhibits we have are the ones we place on our selves.

I hope this helps.

Fully agree with Rixter's advice.

Finally have time to sit down and reflect what I have done in 2014:

1. Setup SMSF and portfolio building
2. Move more into family trust to invest in shares
3. Setup US trading account for trust and started portfolio
3. Bought a block with 2 lots in Brisbane and start the development in 2015.
4. Settlments complete for the townhouses I built and developed.
5. New townhouse project construction started
6. Sold last IPs in Canberra.

Cheers
Canberran
