Where's Dale

Would there be a way to compose "a email from all of us" asking for Dale and Steve to return.

I'm not sure how, but perhaps all members could possibly post/sign their names to "an email which could be forwarded onto both members" stating how much we value their input.

Thoughts of a few, shouldn't cause a exit from participation, whether it be quality forum specialists or the average Jo. In this case we may well have seen it as a detriment to all members.

We are all here expressing views not personally attacking anyone.
Perhaps sometimes we personally read the message the way it wasn't intended.
Then again, other pressures and influences can give an underlying tone to how we reply and sound quite abrupt in reply, nevertheless, It's a communication and information resource forum, with fun, and few personalities thown in. All sharing our common interest in property.

Steve, Dale, your one of our members, who share that fascination with property
Please continue to join us when you have the time.

It appears the cutting down of the tall poppies syndrome is alive and well in some circles on this forum. Such a pity, as the departure of such professionals does little to encourage others of such calibre to join Somersoft. I think more posters should really be thinking more than twice before they hit the Submit Reply button. It's that simple, really.
Keeping our tone amicable, welcoming and mutually respectful is essential if we're to enjoy a truly educational and worthwhile resource here.

And let's not forget about those who may still be lurking but haven't posted much lately for whatever reason (in no particular order):

It would also be great if Jan Somers popped in now and again to say hi and let us know what she's up to. I realise "she does have a life outside of this forum" but it would still be nice to contribute now and again, like Steve McK does at PI.

Jan Somers doesn't need the popularity vote, windpipes blowing up her skirts....Somersoft is not and does not hold a "fanclub" feel about it, and those that frequent it act independently of it as opposed to the "followers" that hang off McKnight's every word (which coincidently are few and far between)!!! The forumites here contribute their own special kind of expertise, experience and above all, originality, unlike that found amongst the McKnight ("rulz") flocks. :p

Don't forget to appreciate the posters who ARE still here in the litany of those who choose for whatever reason not to post :)

Cheers,

Sometimes we win - sometimes we lose

Good thoughts, people,

I know only too well the often emotionless and sometimes ambiguous value of the written word. We are all creatures that "feel", but imparting those feelings can be difficult in black'n'white text.

By all means, learn to use "preview", and read back what you write (I've lost count of the number of times that I've done just this, then just "pulled the post" rather than submitting it). Sometimes, my words don't "come out right", so I'd rather just blow them away than to hit Submit.

I personally appreciate the input of (nearly) all, even some of those that tend to "shoot from the hip", as we are a diverse mob, and we all react differently. And most of us can learn something from those that debate against the "norm" - so long as the debaters continue to play the ball....

This forum seems to run very well (most of the time) with a minimum amount of moderator intervention. Occasionally, we (the Mods) need to "pull" threads for the greater good (and to prevent legal discomfort...), but mostly, the huge majority of members keep things "on track" pretty well. Congratulations for that !!!! The forum IS you, and your input. It's not Jan, nor Ian, Sim, Asy, Les, Ruby et al - it's YOU !!!

The Mods attempt to maintain "moderate moderation" - so that the forum can still get the benefit of differing points of view - the "good stuff", the joviality, the naysayers, the doom-and-gloomers, the newbies, the variety of input from all. Now and then, this "moderate moderation" let's us all down - sometimes we (the Mods) allow some posters a bit too much freedom - it's all about where to draw the line...... And sometimes, this leads to really useful posters deciding to leave it all behind. And that HURTS !!!

Then, again, some simply leave because they've moved on - and that's life !!!

There have been MANY great posters over the years that decide not to participate further - for one reason or another. All I can say is I would love to see them ALL back here again, but that is not too likely. Meanwhile, I'll appreciate who we DO have here, and do MY best to prevent giving offence. And if we win back some of those "greats", over time, I'm sure you'll do what YOU can do to keep them here too. Make them all welcome when they are here, and remember their useful input after they go.

And kudos to you, Dale (if you're lurking - if not, I'm sure James will find a way to pass on the feelings of the members here - but then, your Inbox might already be doing that.... :D )

Keep contributing, people - we're all beneficaries when you do that,

Regards,

i read the link to dale's last thread and can understand if he had quite simply had enough.

i too have been the target of that particular aggressive poster - and, in shock at the scathing and very personal attack he made towards me regarding something that was no more than my optimistic opinion, i was very tempted to abandon the forum.

fortunately many came to my defence and howled down the poster - very much as they did with dale. i was honoured when they stood up for me and decided to stay. that particular poster doesn't seem to have much positive stuff to contribute - perhaps he needs a break.

... before i get personal, i will leave my comments at that.

I agree, and i've followed your frustrations on PI. But a hello and an update from Jan would also be nice.

Thanks for the reminder and i do appreciate those that are still here contributing and making this forum what it is :)

P.S. where's Thommo?

No - it seems Thommo is in the process of changing his email address, and until he completes that operation he doesn't show up in the members list (that's just the way the software does it). He's still around.
