G'day Nullargine,

Thanks for providing these graphs - well done.

Re the last one, it seems we are comparing Nett Worth between SS today and AA (Average Australian) in 2004. So SS looks way better than (perhaps) it should.

Not much you can do about that either, but I just wanted to point it out so that newer readers aren't misled unintentionally.

Certainly, in my case, my NW has almost doubled between 2004 and 2007.

Regards,

Hi there,

Not that I'm comparing forums or anything, but just for interest/curiosity :D.

Wealth IS a competition - in relative terms. In absolute and relative terms we are wealthier than our ancestors.

If someone can find more recent data for Aus households, I'll update the graph. Best I can see of public data is that Aus real net worth is increasing at 1% per year which is equivalent to about 5% per year in nominal $. If so, the 2003-04 data presented in the graph are low in 2006-07 terms by about 20% - not greatly different.

is a pity the upper end of this poll wasnt more graded. whilst $20m is a nice stash, to be a player these days (not in the Gekko sense - he was tossing around $50-$100m US in 1987 as a benchmark) you would need say $50m by the time you buy a nice house, boat, car, holiday home, jet plane and passive investments. And you would think you would find wealth on this forum if anywhere. too late this time, next time perhaps.

G'day Ausprop,

Sorry, mate, but I disagree. The Bell curve created by the poll results tells me that maybe the lower levels should have been "more graded". With only 2 out of 141 posting as $20m or greater, grading this area would not add too much of value in my mind.

However, the $100k to $500k could (should?) have been sub-divided to become $100k to $300k and $300k to $500k. But then, hindsight always has better vision than foresight. Overall, though, the poll does what it set out to do.

Hi,

It would be interesting to know the ages of the members here.
Can we do a graph of age vs wealth?

Obviously the more mature members have an advantage of time over the younger members.

If a 35yo has 1 mil net worth, then when that 35yo is say 60, they may then have 5 mil.

Boat's never get put in the asset pool when speaking to bank's, are they acceptable here?
I have to say, you don't use a ' when you are plularising a noun unless you're saying "the boat is/has" or using it possessively, like "the bank's branch".

Can we do a graph of age vs wealth?
I'd like to see that too.

For comparison, net worth by age for the Aus population is in this link (also posted above):

I counted our reno in progress as being the same value as our other apartment complex. In a couple months it will be generating the same income, and that's what banks value the property on, not the value of the house.

So we have 486k in assets.Hopefully next year we will be closer to being millionaires.I just like the sound of it.Even though to look at us, you wouldn't think we had two nickles(5c pieces) to rub together.

I'd be interested to see what results you would get for a similar poll on a share forum.

Not sure which share forum has a 'poll' option though?

GSJ.....

In post number 24 there is a link to a similar poll which I think is from a share forum. You may have seen it already, and I could well be wrong as I clicked on it quickly, but check it out. Apologies if I have it wrong.

Hi wylie,

That's Invested which is a property/shares/managed funds/other forum, most of the posters there seem to have built equity from property and are also using shares and other strategies too. Not a pure shares forum though.

There's a few shares only forums, but I'm not familiar with these.
