    Panania - Former Bankstown Tip

when I was a boy.... I grew up in that part of the world. My memory may be wrong, but I reckon they developed a whole set of townhouses down near the end of Horsley Rd on land that used to be the tip. This would be going back more than 20 years I think. <edited to correct street>

Where do the values in mags come from?

Rookie that I am, I was flicking through the property investment magazines at the newsagents. They have all those stories about individual investors and there is always a little table at the bottom showing the numbers, which obviously include the present value. My question is, where does that...

    Cherrybrook and Castle Hill help

Cherrybrook We live in Cherrybrook and have kids in John Purchase Public. Your budget would be fine nowadays. The house below is just up the road from us and sold for $810k the other day (12 months ago it was advertised for 879k. There are plenty for under $800k and they don't have to be...

    Rates for property management

By way of contrast we got lousy service from the mob charging us 7% and are massively impressed with the mob that charges us 5.5% + statement fee (which still worked out cheaper than the 7%).

    Thornleigh/Normanhurst, NSW PPOR

I live nearby and think it's a great spot if you're looking for somewhere quiet and leafy. You've got the station and the shops and Hornsby shops not far away. Some of it is pretty hilly. Plus you're in the fantastic Anglican Parish of Pennant Hills / Thornleigh with the most amazing clergy :p

Does this restrict our borrowing capacity?

Castle Hill, Cherrybrook, Carlingford under $500K

I live in Cherrybrook. You might find a duplex in the low 500's that could perhaps be negotated down but I wouldn't think there'd be many of them.

How important is the location of the PM's office?

Our new PM is literally a two minute walk from the property - you can see it from the front door of the office. They can and have popped over with a prospective tennant - very helpful.

Todays RBA Decision for the Month of November.

This morning I gave my daughter a long and detailed explanation of why the Reserve Bank was going to lift rates today, despite what everyone was predicting. But she wouldn't hear it; 6 year olds just won't listen.

    ignorant investors or crap agents?

We were the ignorant land lords assuming our property manager would tell us when to put rent up (on the unit we bought to live in before I started working for the church and now rent out). At least we were until very recently. When they never seemed to suggest a rent increase, we did a bit of...

Southern suburbs the way to go in Syd?

When you calculate the size of a one bedroom place to ensure that it is more than 50m2 for the bank, does that include the carspace if there is one? (Some listings seem to include it)
