Key sacrifices include the shared bathroom, wardrobe kitchen and retractable bed.....

.....along with having the only cooking implement, the microwave, in his cupboard right next to his smelly joggers.

.....and all of his packaged food is stored in the lower portion of the swingout door, directly next to his smelly joggers and directly above his dirty laundry.

I'd say the key sacrifice is his hygiene levels.

...Not sure what the big fuss is about? Here in Victoria the minimum size for a room for a couple is 15sqm, 10sqm for singles. Each additional person is required to have an extra 7.5sqm of space in their room. So this isn't just confined to America but people make do just fine.

Not a fuss, not an apartment without minimum standard equipment,
no bathroom, no kitchen, no apartment
cant call it an apartment, its a boarding house room.

I like the way the guy worked with the space he has, and built his own furniture solutions! Couldn't live without a kitchen, but other than that I can see that as actually being a livable space.

Great find. thanks for the post.

Ironic that he is an architect designing massive homes for others.

Sounds like he is making compromises all over the place - furniture, made his bed for $170.

Nice find. Not sure I could live and work in this one space. I could maybe work in it, but would still struggle to live there.

I used to have that kind of room back in my college days. That reminds me. One thing you'll learn from having small room is to appreciate small things in life.

There is something for everyone and a price to match regardless of how seemingly odd a property maybe to the masses...

We Aussies reckon any apartment smaller than about 40m2 is tiny.

Here's a story about a New Yorker who chooses to live in a place less than 1/4 that size.

Were it efficiently, custom designed, I could absolutely live in 35m² with a partner and have all the space I need.

In fact, if I ever build my own place, I don't imagine going past 50m² (not planning on having kids). I'm a fan of small spaces if they're well considered and effectively used.
