Buying for family member on FHOG

Get a "power of attorney" drawn up by a solicitor that allows you to act on behalf of the person and sign the contracts. That way, it's them buying the property not you. It's a reasonably common occurrence.

For the FHOG itself, it's a fairly straight forward form. The supporting evidence is essentially certified copies of ID. All of this needs to be original ink (you can't scan and email it).

Easy enough to download the form, fill it in and post it to the lender or broker. The Australian consulate can certify the ID.

None of this is really difficult, it's mostly a logistics problem. Just make sure there's plenty of time to get things sorted, such as a 60 or 90 day settlement.

Is it doable to buy a property for family member with FGOG but can't return from overseas in person to sign contract?

Contracts can be posted as can FHOG applications. Loans are a bit more tricky but can be done.

It may be difficult to set up a power of attorney if that person cannot see a solicitor face to face.
