China and Hong Kong Holiday

Hi All

We are planning a trip this year to Hong Kong and China.

Have been to Hong Kong before and have an idea on what we will do, however not been to China, what will make a great holiday?

Some must do - see Great Wall of China, what else??

Thanks
MTR

We went to China and HK for a holiday in 2009 - it was absolutely fantastic!!
Highly recommend.

We started in Shanghai - http://www.travelchinaguide.com/attraction/shanghai/

Really enjoyed the ancient water town zhujiajiao just out of Shanghai

We then went to Guilin, which is very pretty - boat ride down the Li river (just amazing scenery), visited Yangshou which is like a touristy market town

Then went to Xian - terracotta warriors were the highlight
Then to Beijing - lots to see - the wall, forbidden city, summer palace, silk markets.

We then went north to Harbin for a snow and ice festival (only on in January/Feb)

Then to HK - which was ok, but really enjoyed mainland china much more

i was in china last yr. really enjoyed beijing and the yunnan area.
just be careful to not visit in Golden week - its one week in october where they have national holidays. i was there then and there were so many crowds, not enjoyable.

Was last in HK/China in '92 as I left for the USsome people in the HK Hotel were complaining the Travel Agent never warned them about Chinese New year

Would love to see more and visit the Himalayas and Macau
