It is only a matter of time before the truth (the factual scientific evidence) is accepted..... BUT, in the meantime, governments will continue to leverage the myth in a vain attempt to extort taxes from the people.
Unfortunately, I think the misguided and misinformed will have the upper hand for quite some time yet as groupthink and "belief" in the CO2 causing temp rise myth has well and truly set in... will be many years before we are freed of this disgusting suppression of scientific evidence which debunks the greedy soothsayers myth.

I thought the factual evidence was that the earth was warming
The difficulty here is that there are many people doing the actual measuring of the temperature in what I'll call the "scientific era". they do not agree among themselves just HOW to measure "global temperature" or whether it should be measured on land, at sea or at altitude. The East Anglia CRU insists on using the land-based measuring stations (down-playing the "heat-island" effect) and tacking them onto the proxies before accurate measurements were available, in a dubious manner.
Envisat is supposed to be the duck's nuts. This satellite has been giving data for long enough now, read at altitude over land and sea, to be considered a reliable measure of TREND. That data supports the view that the world has been cooling (at least NOT heating) since '98.
It really becomes a matter of "choose your expert". But go beyond the popular press, especially the ABC.

greenland glacier melt - real.
the issue is that the polar warming is giving way to a latitude shift in the freezing weather.
the CENTRE of Antarctica is actually getting COLDER.
we're seeing more Russian/European/South American white-outs that rival the ice age.
sea ice melt is an exponential effect. the issue is that sea ice in antarctica holds back the glacial flow from the land ice. if the glaciers in antarctica start to melt we're in for it, as far as sea levels go.
however, more ocean and less ice means a warmer ocean - water absorbs heat better that the ice does (white is reflective).
warmer oceans - this means more rain.
warmer ocean - this means more O2 - the ocean is the biggest emitter of O2 and it increases output the warmer it gets.
this will counter the disproportionate rise in CO2.
it's a simplistic argument but it's hard to deny the basics.
this means we can feed the world better.

mmm... well that is a topic of much debate as the OP's have stated.
The real riddle is not so much is it or isn't it, but rather WHY? This is where the MSM and group think has disintegrated into ignorant banter.
The earth has been going through temp cycles for as long as humans can determine, with major climatic events proven to have occurred..... Please explain the root cause of these events, since humans were NOT present at the time..... (and tales of meteorites being the ONLY other explanation are futile) This fact alone should raise an eyebrow from an inquiring mind.
But, people will "believe" what they want to "believe".... even if it means they get their "facts" solely from TV, newspapers and magazines funded by corporations and governments with a largely hidden agenda. Critical thought is what defines humans as a species however, a large proportion would rather not exercise this great wonder that defines our humanity.....
Is it? The ice is getting thicker (due to increased precipitation), but I haven't seen any evidence it's trending colder.
What? That makes no sense at all? How does increased O2 counter increasing CO2?

if we had no CO2 and all O2 then the world would be a pretty cold place with no plants.
To maintain the same percentage there would have to be a massive amount of oxygen added, and it would be besides the point anyway. If you've kept the CO2 concentration level the same but added an extra three feet of atmosphere, you'll be warmer anyway.
No animals either since they couldn't survive in such an oxygen rich environment (besides not having any food).
