Cost of sloping driveway?

Just looked at a prop that might lend itself to a GF as it has front and rear road access, but whilst the block is gently sloping there is a troubling 3m natural drop just after the back boundary towards the rear road.

Anyone any idea what sort of money it might cost to cut in a driveway to this height? There is about a 6m distance from the rear boundary to the actual road, but the drop is fairly sudden just after the back fence.

Hoping you guys aren't going to say squillions because otherwise its looking promising...:D

You won't get a driveway passed unless the gradient meets council requirements - normally 1 in 4 max (25%) with 12.5% gradient changes. 3m fall over 6m length is 1 in 2 (50%) which is severe:eek:

You don't need extra car parking for a GF so why bother worrying about a driveway? :) Just put in some stairs. ;)

Thanks a lot RS. Unfortunately there is no off street parking on the rear road as its on a busy bend and no houses front that side (can see why now) but will look into it again with the new knowledge you have provided ;).

Have you ever cut in a driveway to a raw block with a backhoe though? There is lots of room to play with and I'm wondering what it might cost to cut a chunk of the block out just for a car space, perhaps coupled with your stairs idea.

If it's on a busy bend then likely not. Go and ask council planners. Can't they park on the other street and have a walkway into the back yard? :):)
