Delay in changes to WA FHOG

Changes to the First Home Owners Grant expected to take effect on Sunday 15th September have experienced delay.

While the necessary legislation has passed the state?s Lower House it now needs to be considered by the Upper House and, assuming safe passage, will then need to receive royal assent from the Governor. This has not yet occurred.

All this means that it may take until the end of October before the proposed changes come into effect.

In the mean time the FHOG of $7,000 still applies equally to both established homes and new-builds. REIWA will advise members in coming weeks when the anticipated change will formally take place.

When that happens, FHOG for established homes will drop from $7,000 to $3,000, while FHOG for new-builds will lift from $7,000 to $10,000. But for now that change has not yet taken place.

Thanks for the update FMS, I'll be interested to see what effect this will have (if any) on the Perth market...

Your welcome Timo. It will likely stimulate building (the government hopes) and may take some of the heat out of the lower end of the established market.
