Discolouration of hardwood Timber Floors

Needed some advise from the experts in this forum.
We recently got someone to rip off the old vinly flooring in the kitchen and laundry and sand/polish it.
The wood in some parts of the Laundry has changed colour. I was told that this is not something that can be removed by sanding/polishing.
The area that is discoloured is pretty small and can be covered by placing the washing on top of it.
But I just wanted to know if I should be replacing the boards in that area . Will it decay going forward?

Hi Julia
Do you mean "will it decay in the future" ?:p

Tap the stained area with something solid and see it sounds the same as the unaffected area, could just be a stain from chemicals being in the laundry.
