Entitlement payable?

I received a letter from a company claiming that there is an entitlement payable to me of $128.74 and for me to claim it I need to provide personal documents. I am worried about potential identify theft.

How can I check if it is legit or not?

Hahaha these companies were on Today Tonight a few weeks back.

Odds are that the money is real, but you can retrieve it yourself for free.

There are free government websites to do the searches yourself.

yep its probably 'legit' - but they want $40 for their service of telling you what it is/ where to get it, when its your money already.

Up to you if you think their fee is fair... depends if you knew the money was there and didn't bother to claim it, or see it as a nice surprise. Or can you find out for yourself what it is and how to claim it?

We got one of them a while ago too. Letter was addressed to Hubby. There was someone with a similar name who had a considerable amount owing to them from memory. Nothing for us though.

Hubby got one two for something like $180 in unpaid dividends from 20 years ago. I managed to wrangle out of the company who the dividends were from, contacted the share managers of that company and were told that he was owed nothing.

Not necessarily a scam but not necessarily money for you either.
