Evicted Tenant Storage?

Hi all,

Have a tenant who has fallen about $6,000 behind in rent.

We finally have a warrant to evict them with the Police.

As I understand it, if we evict them then we are obliged to put their possessions (left behind in our property) into storage for 21 days or something.

Apparently they have like 5 cars in the backyard and who knows what the house is like.

Just wondering if I have that right, if anyone else has any stories of a similar situation or can offer some advice on our rights.

It doesn't seem fair or just that they can be so far behind in rent, and then we have to pay to store their s!@t including 5 cars.

Cheers

Theres a few posts on this already, do a search. Basically theres an Act that covers how, where and for what duration you should store their belongings.

If it's in victoria you need to get consumer affairs out to have a look.

They basically assess what's there and tell you what you can, and cannot get rid of. Photographs and documents need to be stored for a longer period of time, but at least with these you don't need a storage facility.
