Football clubs ...

Socceroos squad to be announced today at 11am (AEST).

25 sleeps til I'm on the plane to Brazil :D

On another note, has anyone been following the FFA Cup news? The draw for the Round of 32 is late June, but all of the qualifying is happening at the moment. I've done up a website (very rough so go easy) to show all the qualifying information - www.pursuitofthecupau.com

I was amazed with the second half of the season for Palace. Mile has been rated quite highly & well deserved this year as has the Palace manager.

I didn't realise Mile was 29 though, I thought he was younger :( Hopefully he has a great tournament. :)

Any predictions for Australia at the WC ?

It won't be pretty.

I'll make a bold prediction and say we'll draw with Netherlands and Chile.

I think they will surprise people , though in reality I'd prefer the World Cup to be in two years ...

Next time around , hopefully , the current generation will be where the " golden generation " where in 2006 . I'm just hoping the FFA will have learnt some lessons in " list management " by then , so they're grooming the next generation while this one is peaking .

Hopefully the a league will be stronger by then so we'll have more hanging around and becoming established here before they try and break out overseas , more the way the Brett Emerton handled his career rather than mark Milligan did. Millsy tried to go straight from just making it in sydney FC straight into the EPL and he didn't get a contract . He should have gone another year with FC and then into a second level comp in Europe where he would have built up experience and a profile . The championship , bundaslig 2 and seria b should be where they aim to go after establishing them selves in the a league , then if they're good enough , they'll get picked up by one of the top clubs . Being on the books of a top club and not getting game time is an end of career move , not a leg up for most .

I think langerak was a better goalie than Ryan two years ago , but lack of game time hasn't helped him even though he's at a top club. As a result he'll be watching from the sidelines at the World Cup . His display against FC in the 2010 a league final is the best display I've seen from a goalie , live . Brilliant ..

:eek::eek: Swans! I saw the score this morning...I thought that can't be right...possibly a sign of things to come.

Shame Atletico couldn't get the job done.

WC countdown, nearly here. :)

I watched the game . The thing that was really impressive was their pressure and the quick hand balling in tight spaces . Parker and Bird have stepped up to th elite level this year so they now have at least 6 top class mid fielders . That and their forward line more than make up for the ruck weakness with pike out .

When you consider they also have have Ryan o'keefe in the reserves and on him form tom Mitchell would walk into most teams . They also hav some coverag for injuries to key defenders which has been a weakness in recent years , with LRT also in the reserves and Sam Reid more than capable back there .

David Villa to the A-League !!!

Spanish superstar David Villa confirmed for 10-game guest stint with Melbourne City in A-League
:D

Was impressed to hear that . Del Piero was in the twilight of his career aged ? 36 when he turned up in sydney . David is 32 .

Melbourne City / Heart seem to be intent on making a big splash . Having a competitive second team in melbourne will be a massive boost for the a league , the same way the wanderers have been massive for Sydney .

Interesting weekend for the swannies .

Both hawthorn and port Adelaide beaten . All the swannies need to do is beat the eagles in Perth and they go top .

One thing I'm thinking at the moment is if we sell our PPOR we may end up going to see the swannies win the premiership in 2014 .....

Just a matter of whether all the tickets have sold by the time we sell ..

Yes Cliff, I was SOOOO wrong.

Swans seem to have all their ducks in a row. Depth, no serious injuries, the ability to rest players, a good draw, and the 4 main challengers faltering.

All seems good, Peter

If you consider they have three of their first line choices out injured in shaw , hannaberry an Tippett .

Personally I'm looking at their depth of players going forward . In Hannerbury , Parker and Mitchell they have three of the best young midfileders going around and that's not including some of their other young players .

I think last week they had seven players with less than 40 games.

Last week was also the first game I've seen garry rohan getting back towards form since his horrendous leg fracture . Pulled off some big tackles in our attacking zone ,whereas up to now he's seemed a little gun shy of getting into the heavier areas , which is probably understandable .
