Hows this for an RE ad?

How was she objectified? She is an adult who is perfectly capable of making her own decisions. Stop treating women as if they are incapable of thinking for themselves and need to be protected from the big, bad world.

If you look up the definition of objectification I think it's very clear that it's happening in this commercial.

She took off her clothes. She didn't speak. She didn't engage with the camera. There were few shots taken of her face but many shots taken of parts of her body. This suggests she isn't a person but a product that can be purchased or owned. She becomes an object. Hence, she is "Objectified". What this commercial loosely communicates to the audience is buy this house and you can have sex with her or someone that looks like her.

In contrast the two men kept their clothes on and engage with the camera and audience. They speak with the audience and they're seen as humans who hold valuable opinions and intelligence. Or were you sitting there thinking "oh boy, if I buy this house I can have sex with those two guys on the couch!"?

Essentially the two men in the commercial (or the real estate agency) are profiting from HER body.

You can argue sexual objectification doesn't hurt women blah blah blah but you can't argue that there isn't any objectification in that ad.

PS Whilst men are still a part of society as consumers - this sort of advertising (though not specific to realestate) will never stop.

Sex sells - end of story. Granted many people may not like it, but it's a fact, and very profitable.

Last time I checked, no one I knew wanted to have sex with an 'object'. You may think she is being objectified, but blokes see that and think 'Wow! She's pretty hot' as in, they acknowledge that there is an actual female human being in the shot, not a cardboard box. When you see guys in ads like this, do you think they are being objectified and get upset? When you see a picture of a buff, good looking dude do you think to yourself 'Woah! I really like that guys.... brains'.

By the way, I would hazard a guess that anyone with enough money to buy that place would very likely be able to have sex with a woman that looks like that, quite possibly more than one at a time.

No, they are profiting from the sale of the property. SHE is profiting from her body, since she is the one getting paid to model in the ad.

Great more tree huggers! Let's tear down the power plants too so we live in total darkness as well!

I'm a feminist not a tree hugger. And if you ever want a wife or girlfriend who isn't dating you for your money I suggest you look into becoming one too.

Not only does this commercial objectify women but it assumes men are stupid. Hmmm how do we sell this house? I think our target market is the single male, perhaps a footballer with too much money... I know... skanky stripper! SOLD!

I'm not going to sit here and praise these two idiots as some kind of marketing wizards. This is not creative or innovative. Haven't you seen those Gainesville furniture ads? Advertisers have been doing this for hundreds of years. Gawd this is just so lame to even have to sit here and argue my point.

THIS COMMERCIAL IS ****. THIS COMMERCIAL IS NOT ORIGINAL. THOSE TWO GUYS ARE MIDDLE AGED DOUCHE LORDS PROFITING OFF A WOMAN'S BODY AND THE STUPIDITY OF MEN.

Nobody said women sexually objectifying themselves wasn't profitable! I'm sure most women could make plenty of money as strippers and prostitutes. I suppose pimps aren't profiting from women's bodies either..they're profiting from their entrepreneurial skill set.

Men don't want to have sex with objects. Oh clearly you understand the meaning of the word objectification. Your intelligence overwhelms me.

When I see men in ads like this? Are you for real? For every sexist advertisement objectifying a man there are 5 million more objectifying a woman.

The fact men think like this makes me really sad. What if it was your daughter or your wife or your mother in that commercial?

*bangs Head Into Keyboard*

And There It Is. You Made My Point For Me. If You Have Enough Money You Can Buy Women. More Than One At A Time In Fact.

Hi Belle

How condescending, the model doesn't conform to your definition of womenhood so now she is a skanky stripper.

Cheers

Good on you. I agree.

But there's no point in wasting a whole lot of time arguing about it. After a few years you will realise that there is a large population of aging men who - let's politely say they've lost a bit of something - and spend the rest of their lives salivating over the impossible.

Move on and leave them to their drool.

Any woman can be given the skanky stripper look with enough makeup. That wasn't a personal attack on the model!

Hi Amadio

You seemed to have included ageism, sexism and stereotyping in one paragraph, thought this is what you are complaining about.

I must be wrong because would make you rather hypocritical.

Cheers

I think there is a point to spending some time arguing about it. People always find my point of view on this stuff so strange.. I just don’t get it? People argue “sex sells and it will always be this way. There will always be prostitutes and strippers, there will always be porn, semi-naked women will always be used to sell products.” I mean.. can’t we expect more from men than that?

I think women are becoming more and more objectified as time goes on. Things aren't getting better; in fact they're getting much worse.

If you look at pornography for example it is getting much more extreme.

Every time I’m online I’m bombarded with advertisements for pornography sites. One of my close friends who does modeling even found that an image of her when she was just 16 was used without her permission to advertise a pornography website! How would you feel if it was your daughter’s image that was used like that?

I have to listen to Rihanna singing about S&M and chains and whips exciting her on the radio when not too long ago photos were released of her swollen and bruised after her bf punched her in the face.

This type of crap is just constantly in my face. Where are the real men who will stand up and say this type of advertising sucks, women deserve to be treated better and I won’t give my money to these people? Just because the majority of people seem to be happy to sit back and accept it doesn't mean you can't open your minds a little and look at it from a different perspective. Of course it's so much easier to just ignore it.

got 24 seconds in and turned it off. I guess it must have been showing a property a little later in the promo. I'm sure many would do the same and therefor the advert will miss the mark with many. I hope the vendors are able to claim the advertising expenses as a deduction

'Sex sells' advertising is directed at women as well. But that's okay I guess. My mind is quite open, on this and many other subjects. No one is forcing this woman (whom you refer to as a 'skanky stripper, but of course you weren't referring to her! *rollseyes*) to participate in the ad. It was her decision and her decision alone.

You do realise that women are perfectly capable of making their own decisions and being responsible for making those decisions, aren't you? Can you explain how women who do sexy ads are being treated poorly?
