Import Japanese car

Depends on what you're after and whether you want to import it or just buy one that's already imported, complied and registered. I personally haven't had one imported, but I'd rather save the hassle and buy one already landed than waiting for weeks or months to get it bought, shipped and complied.

This website may be a good starting point if you're looking to get one shipped over here: www.raws.com.au

I think that it won't be hard to find a reputable mechanic who has worked on these types of cars before, as there seem to be specialist mechanics in most cities.

Anyone hear done this, your experiences and thoughts about it and who did you use in Australia.

Mr Westminster imported in a 92 Legacy just before the 12 year rule stopped. He lives on various car forums and plenty of people with experience on there based on the type of car - ie check out Subaru for importing a Subie, Mitsubishi sites for Mitsusquishies.

Sometimes its easier to import a front cut which is engine, dash, wiring and transmission (sometimes) and stick that in an aussie model.

Depends really what you want to import.

I've been to the car auctions in Japan where the importers often source their cars. There are a lot of people there who can act as agents and can help you export and import into Australia. You should go over and have a look.
