Income in retirement

I have a close relative who has recently retired and has no super and cant get the pension.

I'm seeking some general suggestions on how someone in their late sixties could earn some extra income on an adhoc/casual type basis.

Yeah - and badly structured.

Big mortgage on the house they live in. Lower mortgage on investment properties, but they dont want to change it as they eventually want to live in one of the investment properties..and they dont want to sell as they are afraid their capital will disappear. There is plenty they could do to restructure, but they dont want to.

But my real question is related to odd jobs - any suggestions?

My father is in his seventies, he teaches still part time, found it difficult initially to find something but by no means impossible

Other ideas depending on his qualifications and experience maybe tutoring something privately? Casual ground work on a golf course or bowls club, you could try the casinos and hotels for concierge? Or bell boy? Some restaurants like a matured aged host for the front desk and door. He could maybe try some phone help lines- prob will need training for this,

Gardening stores and second hand book shops tend to have older people working in them I have noticed maybe do a ring around, also I would try the salvo and lifeline stores for some casual counter work

Hi Nemo30,

Odd jobs?Collect,search,buy,sell,ebay...Deliver pamphlets,courier,pizza deliver etc,fruit picking,online surveys,on site caretakers,do a course in a aged care.

Late 60's and have the ability to make life easier as simple as restructuring.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

Cheers Spades.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything legal to contribute but I do have a story.

I read an article recently suggesting a number of retirees had started both smoking and selling marijuana for a) fun b) pain relief c) income and d) increased social interactions, including cross-generational ones.

...

maybe advertise part of their main residence or IPs on airbnb or stayz.com.au for holiday makers, interstate or overseas visitors, investors looking for property in the area? Could be a good source of income.

This is a great idea but if they don't even want to restructure to solve problems can you imagine them inviting sven to stay in the back room?

Geez you jump to conclusions. I said their assets were poorly structured - but they are Ike that for a reason. If they were structured differently they still couldn't get the pension. The issue is that one half has an income and the other has no money coming in and would like some.

Now back to my question. .. (Which I am actually sorry I asked)

This is actually a great idea as marijuana becomes more socially accepted and the incredible health benefits are being more widely recognized. But the window for high profit margins is probably not too long since it's being gradually legalized all over the world and a lot of individuals and businesses are already jumping on the bandwagon. A profitable area after legalization could be marijuana infused food products, since most people are non smokers these days.

Mary Jane is 100% profitable as long as you end up with females plants

As long as there is always plenty of sad depressed lost people on this planet there will always be demand

A lot of irreversible health damage can be caused by this product...it should never be made legal

More damage is done via legal drugs ie:alcohol and tobacco.
I'd say legalize hemp, get rid of the black market and gubberment would reap in a heap of tax.
I'd rather be sitting next to a stoner than a dumb 4ss drunk.

Also,The Benefits of Medical Cannabis outweigh what the pharma's want you to believe.

Cheers Spades.

Applies more to alcohol... red wine maybe.

Marijuana prohibition will be looked back on with bewilderment in a decade or two (like the US alcohol prohibition is). Anyway.. off topic, guess the OPs relative doesn't want to make money doing something that is still illegal at the moment.

This bit is confusing - are they a couple or not?

If they are a couple, why does one have money and the other doesn't? Surely at their time of life it's "what's yours is mine" as been in play for decades? Or maybe I just think it should be because that's the way my family has always done it.

Anyhow - family day care? Huge demand for long day child care.

Lawnmowing - maintenance - cleaning - ironing - mobile car washing - market stalls ...

Are they male or female? What skills do they have?
