Initial date to claim interest expenses

Good Morning

We have just listed our house as available for tenants from 12.12.10. The PM is quite certain there wont be any problems finding one. Im just thinking, if we dont get tenants by then, are we allowed to start claiming the interest expense from then, even if we are still there, as it is definitely available for occupancy from that date & the PM is assigned & advertising?

We would literally just have a bed, some loungeroom stuff & kitchen stuff there. Just dont want to leave it vacant. No biggy either way, just seeing what you would do? We could be out immediately when tenants are found.

I dont' know for sure, but you would have to think from a common sense point of view it would be from the date the place is genuinely available for rent, as at that point in time its purpose is for income generation.
