More Labor economic incompetence

Do you a deal, nat
We Lib supporters will quit being sore losers ..... if you 'true believers' will quit banging on about Whitlam being the best PM this country has ever had!

I mean, fair's fair - Johnny has only been gone 18 mths! Whitlam was kicked out 34 years ago!
Cheers
Lynn

Who's Whitlam? Hawkie was the best PM this country has ever had :D

Seriously though, Labor have exactly the same advisors and "experts" working in the background as the Libs had and I seriously don't think things would be any different no matter who is in government (apart from more job losses due to more extreme Worknochoices).

Anyway, who really cares. The govt will do what it does and we all have to live with it. Why complain about something you can't do anything about - better to focus on being a winner than wasting valuable time and energy bashing the government. A good investor should be able to prosper in any economic climate no matter what government is in power.

Nat, the full economic stimulus amount was paid out to previous Australian residents (even those who lived here for 5 years) ....... the glitch was due to Centrelink's database not being up to date and accurate.....

Please let us know when your Mum gets an economic stimulus payment from the Dutch government.......

The only stimulus package I want Rudd to be implementing is to expand and maintain infrastructure.

Nation building isn't about having a few thousand more plasmas.

Aha! So you can't really blame Labor for Centrelink's database not being up to date can you? If the Libs were in power exactly the same thing would have happened.

I agree that the money could have been better spent on infrastructure (which is partly a state government thing as well), on tertiary education or by giving small and medium sized businesses funding or tax breaks to keep workers on the job.

However, no matter what government is in power they are curtailed by what the majority of the public want and quite obviously Joe Public likes their cash bonuses.

One could just as well argue (as I do) that the obscene amount of my tax dollars going towards encouraging rampant overpopulation is also a gross waste of money and the most misguided policy ever written. However imagine the outrage if Labor stopped paying the baby bonus for the purposes of investing in infrastructure and other useful Nation building things. Even the most upper-middle class Liberals in the country would be aghast at the loss of their "entitlements".

My point is that both governments have implemented stupid policies and we'll just have to suck it up and live with it.

Massive difference between the 2 sides of politics.

Liberals will implement any necessary unpopular reforms eg. GST, workchoices etc. in order to have the economy running well and provide enough tax dollars for necessary services. They will give the occasional hand out, but only if the budget is in a good financial position.

Labour, on the other hand, does what's popular with the masses, regardless of the financial consequences. Of course the typical Joe Blow loves the stimulus handouts, but couldn't give a s--t about any liabilities passed down the line. The same moron will ***** and moan about a future liberal govt, which will have to sell off more assets or raise taxes, to pay for labour's present stupidity.

I can't believe that people think that blowing all our surplus on handouts is OK.
The billions on infrustructure would have been far better to kick start the economy.

Ask yourself,

DO YOU RUN YOUR HOUSEHOLD FINANCES THE THE WAY LABOUR RUNS THIS COUNTRY?

A well argued position devoid of bias or partisanship.

Congrats.

Any comments on single mothers or foreigners while you're on a roll?

:rolleyes:Since i'm "on a roll" i'll answer anyhow.

Migrants should be definetely welcome here, but we need a strong economy to provide jobs for all.

No problem with single mothers in general, but when they start making an industry out of it, that's a different story. Same applies to all welfare.

well that's 5 unskilled workers kept busy for about 5 minutes.

I doubt aussies could sway Chinese industry by much... as I read today, their annual population growth exceeds the total unemployed population of the US

A lot of the developing world, including China relies on exports to developed countries. Think of these stimulus packages, and of course Australia is not the only one, there's the US, Europe, UK all pumping money into the global ecomomy, as a lifeline for all countries. I think we all need to think outside our own backyards and our own, relatively non-existent financial woes, and think about those people that are really in trouble.

Anyone got any ideas on how to increase child care standards in working class areas to a standard only upper class households can afford, in this economic climate?

How about print more money.

centres won't need more staff for the kids - there'll be none there because parents can't afford it, so the ratio will climb anyway.

what a story - crush the industry in the name of reform...that singaporean citizenship is looking mighty tempting about now.

This was Maxine McKew's baby.
Just goes to show the ABC isn't any training ground for the real world.

You going up to hang out with Jim Rogers? think I'd prefer to live somewhere with more trees.

Arthur C Clarke moved to Sri Lanka.
Marc Faber moved to Thailand.

Vietnam or parts of Malaysia would be good too.

hmmmmm.....need to rethink what is possible re the internet and a sat dish....

dont you just love the free market at all costs, economic liberalism that pervails. Governments have been harping on about the 'bennefits' of this for years, but its going to hit their back pockets eventually because with free markets, comes free capital movements for the savvy:D, and free capital movements means

I DONT PAY YOUR 50% marginal tax:D.

My money moves accross the globe earning the highest AFTER TAX returns in the local domociled country.

As my international chinese friends say, australia is a great place to raise your family, just make sure that you leave your business interests at home.

Gee, I must be getting senile. Julia Guillard was just on 730report and looked....nice.

Hey, I saw that too and thought the same thing. She didn't have the funny "one side sticking up more than the other" thing happening with her hair!:p

Did anyone hear part of Kevin's speech at Prof. Chris O'Brien's funeral? It sounded like he was reading the latest unemployment figures. I am just so sick of his monotone voice.

What makes me really cranky is that we are not in a recession. :p I just can't stand the thought that Labor claim it was due to their stimulous package!

Thanks for starting this thread WW. Although my "venting" lacked absolutely no substance or intellectual value, it feels good to do it! Ha!:p

(Nice one, BV.)

Heard from our accountant yesterday and we receive EVERY cent of tax back! Take that Centrelink!

Regards JO

only fair that you pay tax if you earn it. not sure of your situation, but if you lost your income holding resi property then why should you pay tax?

mind you for many centrelink calculations they like to add back property losses... go figure

i love it!!!! gold.

John, c'link will do all they can to avoid paying anyone anything, unless you really dont want to help yourself....

anyhoo - i did the calcs yesterday. we're sending our 4yo to a catholic school in our area, will cost $1297pa....

sending our 2yo to daycare one day a week for 50 weeks at $80 a day is costing us $4000pa.:eek::eek:

i could put 3 kids thru a catholic primary school for that....

such a rort. i can't believe i allowed myself to be taken over by the emotional side of it all - so i gave them my 2wks notice on wednesday.

so there's a great daycare around the corner we can send him for $45 a day. still $2000+ pa, but he's not in school yet and NEEDS the socialisation.

Hi BC,

Was your daycare for $80 a day a Catholic daycare?

I pay $80/day for my 12 mth old but it drops down once he turns two. Goodness knows why! Back when my 11 yr old was in daycare they would supply the nappies. Now they even ask us to bring the cot sheets in!

I agree it is expensive but I don't think these centres are rolling in money. I think they would find it hard to make a cent. I would never invest in one....would you?

Well said Ausprop.

Regards Jo

hi josko - no $80 per day for independent (ie non ABC Learning) day care.

over the last 18 months, the fees have gone from $54, $62, $74 and now $80 - with a lovely - newly introduced $50 fee for every week you are in arrears. AND we have to supply everything except food.

hmm....i wonder why people are in arrears....?

i'd never invest in a CCC. you can't mix $$$ and care (aged, palative, kids) and my views are very clearly explained on this in the ABC learning thread.

no wonder single mums can't afford to go back to work - it'd all get eaten up in daycare....for what? to stress more and see less of yor kids?

BBs should retire like their parents did and help out, like their parets did....
