Peter Spann Last Night on ABC 7.30 Report

It makes one wonder when you see, anyone that tells you with no effort you may get returns like that over 3 months is just not scalable over any 12 week period,if they did this in the USA they would face the full force of the law,and the hernia specialist at the same time..

I watch "American Greed" is fascinating to me as it gets into their (scammers) headspace and how these Ponzi schemes work. Also how stupid people can be that they believe what they are told.

The scammer must be caught first, this can go on for years, they get caught usually when the money runs out and alarm bells ring because someone is missing a monthly payment etc.

One particular guy who scammed many millions and ended up in prison just went on to set up business in prison. Conned fellow prisoner's whose family owned property to join his Ponzi scheme, he told them he was a multi millionaire and in prison because he did not pay taxes.

His g/friend worked it on the outside and once again scammed people out of millions. This guy even managed to have a couple of days out of prison, flying off to LV for w/end, unbelievable.

They got caught eventually, both serving time in prison, he will probably get murdered in prison I imagine, there wont be any love there.

I thought Peter Spann had gone to NZ, however it looks like he is back

Whatever happened to that magic moocow thing?

Peter hasn't dropped by the forum for a while. Seems he has been busy. I gotta admit to being a bit confused. Freeman Fox was the owner of the domain of his website:
http://www.peterspann.com.au/

Yet an ASIC free online search shows a litany of failed and under administration companies with similar names/variants (although the one that owns the website is current).

I wish Peter would drop by to explain what's going on.

It was more than just questioning - you were making assertions without evidence that were clearly libellous and the thread was deleted to prevent YOU (and us) from getting sued.

I have no problems with questioning the actions of investment management companies (indeed, I welcome it - within reason given it is off topic here), however in this case it was decided that the thread went beyond what we consider reasonable.

But this is not the place to discuss posts that were deleted 5 years ago - if you have a problem with the moderation, please contact myself or Ian directly so we can discuss it with you.

And this serves a very very good point to all the people out there.

Yes we have a great Somersoft forum.

But we don't pay for it, nor are we liable (on a personal basis), for any of the topic threads. Essentially we are unaccountable.

Yet others are not (especially the owners of this forum).

So take this into account when reading posts from this forum (and indirectly taking advice from it)

I've been following him on facebook for a little while. I've just started getting emails about educational events. And the red Ferrari has just become his profile picture.

To quote and paraphrase from one of my favourite songs:
"They stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill the beast"

As far as defamation goes- a bit harder to defame a company than an individual I expect. It is not Somersoft's job to rescue everyone, but I say let their be robust debate.

I dealt with Freeman Fox as a lawyer acting for mutual clients years ago. Clients had been sold the dream of buying a six pack on one title in a company name, selling shares in the company correlating with a particular unit, selling the units with a 30k levy in the contract so the premises could be rendered and painted for instant CG . It had it all - the lying Freeman Fox agent, the clients who looked at the "big picture" and weren't worried about the annoying legal fiddly bits and why it was a problem proceeding in the proposed fashion and me the dreamstealer.
It all about the commissions!

In general, this is true - but in some circumstances where the directors or key figures within the company are synonymous with the company itself, any defamatory words directed at the company can be taken as being directed at the individual(s) behind it as well.

For example, if you were to say things about "Somersoft", it pretty much directly reflects on Ian and myself as the people behind the site.

Naturally, the bigger the company, the less "personal" it becomes, but you still don't get an open-license.

It is not Somersoft's job to rescue everyone, but I say let their be robust debate.

I have no interest in rescuing anyone - but I also have no interest in being drawn into YOUR legal battles by association because we allowed you to publish defamatory remarks on our site.

I also say, let there be robust debate - but that does NOT permit you the freedom to defame anyone. There can be plenty of robust debate without resorting to defamatory remarks.

That's OK ; I'm not in any battles with Spann and co. As a general rule if what you say is true and in the public interest a defamation claim will have trouble sticking- at least here in Qld anyway.

But I think you're doing a disservice to society when arrangements of a nature not in a consumer's best interests aren't put under the microscope. This forum offers a highly visible warning to those who look.

To be fair I was wary of Freeman Fox long before my client's had dealings with them. One stop shops will bleed a consumer every which way in my opinion.

I think people should ventilate their experiences and let the reader decide. Just sayin'.

The greatest tragedy is my misspelling of "there" as "their".

By all means - I fully encourage the investigation and scruitiny of any product, service, strategy, marketing or sales person - nowhere have I suggested that this is not appropriate.

You seem to be failing to grasp the differences between scruitiny and defamation. They are NOT the same thing and you can certainly actively investigate and robustly discuss someone without defaming them.

Yeah I'm still around. Wiser after losing 50cents in the dollar on a certain investment. Won't say any more apart from the fact that I am happy I got out when I did.

Ya gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away, know when to RUN. :D

I had recommendations from this forum to read peter spanns books. In searching for his books on Google I came across this thread. I'm now having second thoughts about investing my time into reading his books. Can anybody that has read them share any insight?

I found his books on property to be quite good. I was slightly upset to read his first property book that cost me $25 and find it had the same content as one of his 3 day seminars that I paid $1,200 for! However, that does not take away from the fact that I learned a LOT and thought it was pretty good value.

Read widely, Rizzle. No one book or writer will have all the answers. Maybe Peter Spann's later books on the share market - if he wrote any - might not be as useful.
Don't forget Jan Somers' books. The Somers keep this forum going.
Remember that some of the strategies espoused in books may not be appropriate now as things have changed.
Scott

I have a couple of his books, have his Property Magic, Shares Magic and Instant Income seminars on disk , plus have attended his 2 day Money Magic course in Sydney. I've found them all to be very good & learned a lot from him.

Wheels are in motion already - just trying to best figure out where best to invest my time next. Currently reading McKnights "0 to 135 properties.." book.

Published in 2003. I suppose there'd be stuff in there now to learn?

How's Steve McKnight going these days? Pretty good I think compared to some other gurus? I do remember him getting into US property a few years before the big bust? That might have pulled him up a bit?

See ya's.
