Renovating concrete paths

I am in the process of doing a fairly major renovating on a recently purchased ip. As part of this process we need to tidy up some ugly concrete work under a verandah and some footpaths. I am looking for any ideas that people have implemented in the path. We have considered simply digging it up and starting again, putting a topping on it(this had been done previously and has nearly worn of) or tiling over it. Would appreciate hearing from other as to what they have done.
