Seeking Legal Advice

Where would one go to get (honest) legal advice

Sure a solicitor But my experience Solicitors only want your money
(and don't seem to care if there is nothing in it for them)

Legal Aid Maybe (Is this service only for health care card Holders?)

Online legal advisers? Ask for credit card details?

There use to be a free legal advisory service that gave one some direction as to there to go to take the next step (Do these still exist)

It really depends on what sort of legal advice is sought.

There may not be many free/low-cost legal services available even if you are otherwise of low-means or disadvantaged.

You might not be able to avoid seeing a private solicitor. (Which your aversion to seems a bit extreme. Its like saying you don't want to see a doctor for your medical problem because you had a bad experience with a doctor once)

Thats exactly right

Please read the question at hand

As I said

Well, the solicitor doesn't know you from a hill of beans. If you don't want them to work for money, what exactly do you want them to work for?

Legal Advice

Why not contact the Law Society in your State to see whether any solicitors will provide some pro bono advice or at least the first conference for a nominal amount.
Many solicitors still do pro bono work and are usually involved with Community Legal Centres.
Also depending upon the topic - there is a lot of useful information on the internet that can get you started.

Better not to see a doctor if sick they will ask for medicare card (taxpayer money) plus your money. Dentists the same. And those leaches down the coffee shop have the audacity to charge me for a coffee !!!! I mean what has the world come to.

But the coffee shop person doesn't tell you to go to the end of the queue because you are only buying one cup the rest in the line behind you are buying 10

The Doctor doesn't ask you to go to another clinic because he next patent has a more serious problem
Nor does the dentist

Your first step is to define the general area of law

family
property
small business
tax
criminal
civil litigation
estates

etc etc etc

Law is a huge field and I believe that you can not do everything and do it well, specialist advice is the key.

Dunno. I went to a coffee shop on Friday where everybody else was getting coffee and I wasn't. I walked out after 20 minutes.

The Doctor doesn't ask you to go to another clinic because he next patent has a more serious problem
The emergency room at a hospital does.

I've never had that experience with solicitors myself though. And I rarely have to wait in a solicitor's waiting room as I do for a doctor or dentist.

OK, I think this is appropriate in the circumstances. You are stuck in a room with a solicitor and a hungry lion. You have a gun with only two bullets. What do you do? Answer: shoot the solicitor....twice :)

As much as you dislike em,you can't live without em.

How did this happen? Do we need to send you to assertiveness training workshops?

OP- mow my lawn and do a few chores around the place and we can do a contra deal.

This statement makes no sense. Unless you are going to a solicitor who specialises in X field for advice as to Y field, they will all give you advice. I suspect given your attitude you just don't want to pay for it. If you need meetings and advice which takes, say, 3 hours to prepare they will bill you for 3 hours. They won't put you ahead or behind a client who needs 20 hours work done.

What specific area is your issue in?

A good professional in any field will know their limitations and when to refer on. My GP knows when she doesn't have the answer, at first she consults her colleagues and then refers to a specialist. My accountant and lawyer does the same thing.

Are you trolling or is this a serious question?

Legal aid is available if you fall in their criteria for needing legal advice you may not be able to afford or if it is for a charitable cause.

Law firms, big and small, offer a particular quota of their work as pro bono for selected clients. Many will also offer a 'first meeting free' for prospective clients. That advice is not likely to give you an answer, just some tips to move forward and to decide if you do require legal assistance.

I work in a role where I have 'potential clients' calling regularly. 95% of them want free advice. I give them general information to give them a start. As soon as they ask me for advice on their particular situation and I let them know that I'd need to see the specific correspondence to help them ie opening a matter I usually never hear from them again.

More than happy to pay for someone to do something

. They won't put you ahead or behind a client who needs 20 hours work done.

Wont they?????
My experience is they will and do

Side note--Debt collectors do it all the time
